Graft failure

Postby John Smith » Thu 15 Dec 2005 8:23 pm

Following on from my Foggy Vision topic, I saw my consultant again today, and the news is not as I'd hoped for.

It seems that, following my 7 rejection episodes, the endothelial cells on the back of the cornea are packing up - at least, not enough of them are doing their job.

So I'm now off the hourly Pred Forte drops, and back on FML 4 times a day, and staying on Timolol to keep the pressure down, as it is currently 26.

My consultant explained that she's now weaning me off the steroids that I've been on for the last 4 years, with a view to a re-graft sometime next year.

Oh no..thats not what you wanted to hear !!

Have you had a regraft on this eye before?....

What is the current state?...are you still having the same symptoms?....

John, am really sorry to hear that. Am glad that you are off hourly drops though, and FML isn't so bad in that it doesn't really sting or 'taste' foul!

Regrafting sounds like a major thing, and i can only guess how hard that would be to go through it again. Am really hoping that that will work though. Keep us informed, and i have noticed my little graphic change! LOL!! Hehe i got it before Christmas! LMAO!!!

Just want to wish you the best now, John, this was not good news at all! I have read your updates recently. Hope they find a way to solve this for you, giving you the highest priority and eventually a new cornea that ajusts better to your eye if the graft does not clear up.

I'm sorry to hear that John.

I just hope that this time you won't suffer any rejection episodes.

I'll be thinking of you.

Hello John

Sorry to hear your news.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I suppose from the positive side at least they now know what the problem is and can start to take steps to attempt to make things better for you.

You must feel really fed up, we could definately all do with some santa magic wishes.

best wishes

Susan

James

May be an idea to write something about the episodes you have had in a post?..reason being is that I think that kind of real world experience is soo valuable to those that have had a Graft and MAY be going through a Rejection etc?..I guess similar to what John did with his initial post?

Unless of course you dont want to...in which case I completely understand..

I think it would be a great idea as well, as it would be very interesting to read and also give us some advice on what to look out for. I know we get advised on this, but it is so easy to forget what signs and symptoms could show a rejection and so your experiences would be really helpful!

Of course as Jay said, this is if you want to, as i can understand that posting here about six rejections would be hard. So will let you decide, hehe, byeeeeee!!
