My dad phoned me a few days ago to tell me about a programme on grafts under the NHS in Wales. The most usual time there is two years!! Eekk, and that took someone a LOT of phoning and begging, so maybe i'm right at the bottom of the list!

But you know, by the time i return home in a few years, i may need the other eye doing and so will make it just in time!!!!!!

Time waiting for donor cornea

Postby Frederica Bull » Sun 11 Dec 2005 3:18 pm

Hi all,
I had to wait only a six weeks - mostly because we had to find a date in the surgeon's diary, and a space in theatre. I understand that the donor corneas can be kept for six weeks, but because tissue matching is not an issue the stock can be used for almost anyone.

I had mine several years ago and only really suffer a bit of photophobia now. I rarely think of it - hence I am only an occasional visitor to this site.

Best wishes, Freddy

Hi Paul,

I think I might be able to help you out here as I am having my operation at the K&C too.

I take it your specialist is Dr Decock?

I had my last consultancy on the 30th June and am due my operation in January.

That's roughly a 6 month waiting list which I hope isn't the case for you.

Woohoo! I knew I was not alone in the area! :-)

Mr DeCock it is for me as well he seems to know what he is doing.

Six months seems reasonable - I just don't know now whether the six months has started for me yet due to the paperwork foulup. (It's OK I am calm now folks - Friday was a bad day).

Oh well.

Hope the op goes well for you.

Paul

Cheers Paul, if I bottle out I'll let you go in my place

I'll have a sneaky peak for your paperwork when I'm in the K&C later this week

Paul, so glad that you are feeling a little better now. I know some days it's all bad, but then something goes right, and we can relax and just let things happen!

Chris, good luck with everything! Please drop in and let us know how you are doing!!

Thanks Sweet, It's not difficult to work out where you got your name from.

I'm just off to bed as I have an appointment tomorrow morning with the doctor. I assume this must be when I get my eye measured up for the transplant, but then again perhaps he just wants to see me to give me my christmas pressie :?:

LOL! That was really funny!! I hope you get something nice if it was a pressie hehehe! :P

Hehe, i didn't really have a choice over my name, i was kinda born with it, and spent all my childhood hating it! But as my brother said, it is ok to be called sweetie as a girl, try being a boy and getting called that!!! And so i changed my mind on the whole thing when i reached my teens, and thought i could have been called something a hell of a lot worse!!!!!!

Take care and let us know how today goes!

I'm back :)

But didn't see my doctor and thus didn't get my present. I think he must have been out shopping for something really nice.

Today was in fact my appointment prior to my operation. Pulse, blood, weight and ECG test. The ECG turned up a problem though so I'm going to have to go have a stress test before my op. I'll finally get my own personal trainer for the day!!!!!

I knew something was up though when a bird had a little accident on the man walking into the hospital in front of me. He obviously stole my good luck. He didn't share my thoughts though.

So sweet is your real name  A good choice by your parents then.

And Paul, I was sorry I was unable to find your records. I did my best and checked under the chairs and in the waste paper basket.

Hehehe ... way too funny!! Are you sure his papers weren't around???!!! Gee, how odd!! LOL!! Awww, i'm sure that your pressie will be a dam nice one now, after all this time and effort to find it!!

Yes Sweet is my real name, hehe, thanks for the reply! I have decided that if i EVER get married i am going to keep it, as it has gotten me this far!! :P

Am sorry to here about your test results, but am sure that you were probably stressed over an ECG and that it is nothing to worry about. We do so many, and so need to tell you that unless it is something MAJORLY wrong, there isn't a problem. One ECG on it's own isn't much help, you need at least three so that you can follow any changes, so i'm sure that everything will be fine :)

On tests before a graft i didn't get any except for a BP check etc. I guess that being a nurse and 29 i kinda missed out lol!! :P :P

Take care, and hoping that things move along really quickly for you!
