Rosemary, thanks for that! I don't use pcs much, unless i am here posting lol! I was always told at school that those mesh screens were for brightness control, and so would have taken it as being such until you pointed it out! Hehehe, for the record, no i don't have one here as i don't have my back to a window so there is no reflection!
Thanks, Sweet X x X

I'll second Rosemary with that one. I must admit to finding the glass anti-glare screens worse than useless - the mesh ones are pretty good as long as they are installed correctly.
The side effect of the anti-reflection filter is to reduce both the amount of light coming from the screen (brightness) and the contrast.
So, if you can't see the screen because of reflections, then get a filter. If it's too bright, turn the brightness down.

In addition to Rosemary's comment, I find the new flat screen monitors by far the best, however the brightness and contrast on these do not go dark enough. My monitor does allow the ratio of Red Green and Blue to be alterd and I have my custom settings which are a quarter of the default settings with a bias towards blue.
The flat screen monitors take less space so the rest of the work station assement can be carried out easier. The base unit for my computer is on a wheeled stand to give more room and is still convenient to use the drives on it.
Desk surface is also important, at work all surfaces are anti reflective, but again glare is an issue. I got a desk mat with an anti glare surface which was useless and pointed out to the supplier. I now have the old fashioned type of desk blotter, fake leather with a huge wadge of blotting paper. I alternate between orange and dark blue here depending on how comfortable my eyes are on particular days.
Being near natural light helps me, but I have battles with the person opposite turning the radiator up which really drys my lenses. The other problem is people stand with their back against the radiator and back to the window. I no longer look at them as all I see is a shadowy figure beacuse of all the back light.
Little things to most, but quite important for us.
Regards
Gareth
