Does anybody...

Postby Kirsty Eldridge » Wed 26 Oct 2005 10:41 am

Sorry if this sounds gross but does anybody else rub their eyes ALOT and scratch the underneath of the eyelid when you take your lenses out? Because i do and just wondered if anybody else does/has and how you stop yourself from doing it. It must be wrecking my eyes even more (if thats possible)!! and i need to stop!!
Thanks
Kirsty

Ive now managed to program my brain NOT to itch my eyes!...Its taken me about 8 years lol but I havent itched my eyes in now just over 9 months.....which to me is a result..as I was a serious eye rubber!....
With regards to the eye lids, only time I have had that was in the onset of a new lens...where when Id pop the lens down to take it out sometimes it would mark the inside of the lid......if this is happening reg than

a) get it checked out
b) use something in the eye prior to taking it out.....systane, even the boston conditioning solution?!....best not to aggravate the inside of the lid

I have always rubed my eyes after removing my lenses and in the morning when they feel dry/itchy. I have never scratched the underneath of the eyelid. I have reduced the amount i rub them though. use eye drops such as systane or saline or cold water straight after removing them to prevent them from feeling irritated.

James

I know its very difficult not to....but as you say...you have had grafts in both and dont want to potentially damage them. Ever tried puting cold saline on them in the morning and after you take them out?....or does it occur at random times?

Hello All

I pour cold saline over my eyes first thing in the morning and quite often after I take my lenses out. I also often use the saline to wipe my eye lids and lashes using a cotton wool pad - quite a routine in the morning - thank goodness I have given up with the make up!

I also have minims sterile eye drops and have used systane as well as other over the counter comfort drops quite a bagful to carry around.

Somitimes I find one thing works for a while then not so well and so swap around as needed.

Well these things are sent to try us I feel.

best of luck

Susan

PS as for the eye rubbing well, when I was first diagnosed and asked I thought the answer was no I didn't. However, once it was mentioned I seemed to be concious of doing it so maybe I did. Now I try to either keep my hands busy or use lacrilube eye cream when I remove my lenses as it is sticky and gooey and doesn't go well with eye rubbing - downside it is also greasy and not easy to see through though for me I can't see with out my lenses so I don't really notice.
