Looking for an optometrist?

Postby darrylhuk » Fri 22 Jul 2005 10:51 am

Hi All. To cut a long story short - I am new to the UK. I have Mild Keratoconus and wear rigid lenses (have done for 10 years now). I went for my first Optometric Examination two days ago in the UK and was introduced to a totally different way of practice to what I have been used to.

My main concern is as you all know when you do order lenses and get them fitted - invariably a 1/4 of a millimetre needs to get taken off and the edges lifted (for fit) and I do not necessarily want to wait another week for them to be sent off-site again. Previously I have been used to having it done then and there by the Optometrist.

In simple terms my questions are:
1) Can anybody recommend a practicioner that I could see that fits Keratoconic lenses. I am located in the northern part of Hampshire.
(even if it means I gotta travel up to London)

2) Also, if anyone has some general advice, tips hints about how things work in the UK - please let me know.

Thanks All

Hi

It kind of depends which route you take, the Private or NHS method.

From what you have said I assume you have got a private fitting?..anyhow...you alluded to the fact that the methods you witnessed were sub-par to what you are used to? in which way?

WIth regards to your other question; I have sent you a PM
KC is about facing the challenges it creates rather than accepting the problems it generates -
