Well, this is where Claire's twin study could help as neither of them were in a humid or hot environment like the tropics but Claire's KC is more advanced than her sister's.
My own thoughts is that there is a genetic disposition in many people and that the KC is set off by a trigger.. often by childbirth in women, I have noticed. I have also often seen what looks like KC which progressed very slightly then stopped.
It sure is a fascinating subject!

Ok, i now have details on the study which is taking place over two years, but they didnt tell me exactly when they started it! LOL!!
Anyway will show it to my sister before she makes up her mind, but if she is ok with it then we will go and book an appointment.

I also favour the genetic disposition idea.As you know, corneal topography studies (for those who are not familiar with the term this is a way of getting an accurate contour map of the cornea) on NORMAL corneas show that quite a few show areas of subclinical distortion which never progress and never cause any symptoms.It may be that this is because cornea is a living tissue and hence is bound to show some irregularities or may be,just may be, this is showing an inherited gene defect and a small number of these patients go on to develop KC for whatever reason. If this is the case, perhaps we ought to do topography on school age children to identify those who are likely to develop KC and issue relevant advice on eye rubbing, etc.Regarding the childbirth link it might be a useful tool in preventing teenage pregnancies LOL. Who knows,we might all get coneal topographers supplied by DOH LOL

Ok ... well now i have printed the study for her and conveniently 'left' it in her room lmao!
She is fine about it, just not happy on the taking blood part! LOL!! Gee this is no time to be having a needle phobia LMAO! I'm not sure if she is related to me anymore!!!!
If she isn't careful i might just sneak in one night, pin her down and take it for her!!! ROFL, so if you hear screaming from London, that might be my fault!!! LOL!!!
Hehehe, no i'll be nice. Am going to get some Emlea cream they use for kids in paeds A & E and take it with us. Im not so mean!! LOL!
Making slight progress here, it's like watching paint dry!!!!

Ok ... moved on loads now as i've just booked us in to be seen next Tuesday! Gee that was SUCH hard work!! LOL!
Hopefully all will be fine and we will get someone nice to take blood lol, i have no problem with it at all, i give blood regularly anyway, but why do i get the feeling she is going to just pass out. Haha, oh sweet don't be so mean.

I have warned her that i might find it kinda funny haha, but i guess i'm just really used to having it done and taking patients blood, so i'm finding it somewhat hard to relate to.
But ...
I will try to be a compassionate nurse and hold her hand! (Hehehe while i'm still laughing!) Ohhh just teasing!

Ok have just come back from Moorfields and everything is ok. LOL, sister DIDN'T pass out having blood taken hehe and i was supportive, i even bought her dinner afterwards lol!
