Can anybody give me the names and or telphone numbers of an optician who specialises in KC contact lenses.I am under Donald Aitchkinson at presant and they are perscribing torax lenses, unfortunatly my eyes are sensitive and are sore after use they advised that somebody else may have alternative suppiers which may help, your comments please

it is quite mild form of KC and fortunatley the torax lens does correct the vision,the issue is the wear time my eyes get worse rather than better and i have disgarded then all together i am wearing glasses however i do need to reslove this. I went to manchester eye hospital they told me you cannot get treatment under the nhs.I live in the Manchester area and pay for all treatment i receive, can i get treatment under the nhs

Darren, as you'll have read in other posts, "poscode Lottery". pretty much depends on where you live to get funded under nhs for KC...
i got my first lens under NHS and the rest will be private...
i see a good optician in preston who deals with mannyy KC patients!
As for manchester.. sorry don;t really know..
maybe someone else can shed some light!
i'd be inclined going back to your GP/Consultant and asking for reference to a KC specialist?

Sorry am not from the Manchester area either so am not aware of anyone there. I tihnk that it is good advice to ask your consultant for some help here, they would know of some who prescibe lenses and be able to advice you.
Unfortunately there are too many around and it is better i think to go to someone who has been recommended to you and has experience in this.
On the postcode lottery that always stands lol! There is much debate on private and NHS care, and i guess when it comes down to it its a personal choice on what you want.

I was in manchester for 1.5 years until December and went to Manchester Eye Hospital for various issues.
I wasnt aware that they do not perform CL fitting under NHS......dam!!
What I suggest you do is see if anyone here posts any contacts or perform a search for Opticans in Manchester and call them...........try and avoid the high street names as they are there for serving the masses as opposed to Keratoconics.
Speak with the opticians and ask them if they Optomoetrist has experience in fitting Kerataconic paitents and if so for how long......
Else, ask Manchester Eye Hospital for a name.

Darren, i just did a quick google for Optometrists in Manchester and loads came up.. do the same and as jay suggested ring them and ask for any dealings with keratoconics... and as i read on one of the other posts...
IMHO in KC years of experience and no of new patients seen per year, is the best way to measure quality of optom.
Of course, each to their own!
