Just started piggybacking yesterday following my hospital appointment - can't believe how comfortable they are!
Very happy so far

Re: Piggybacking
Having tried soft, hard and piggybacks I wonder why it's not considered the default option for KC? It provides the acuity of RGP with better comfort as well as more protection for the cornea. Seems like a win/win choice?

Re: Piggybacking
I think its something to do with reduced oxygen transference. The more lenses stacked, the more restrictive the oxygen to the cornea is.

Re: Piggybacking
Piggy backing is avoided because the thicker the lens, the less oxygen is transmitted to the cornea leaving it prone to oxygen starvation and drying out wich causes additional stress to an already stressed / damaged cornea.
It is for this reason that many optoms don't like to prescribe soft lenses for KC despite the fact the modern soft lenses for KC have an oxygen permeability very similar to most RGP lenses.
Cost is also a factor but to go in to the reasons for this are likely to breach the forum rules regarding politics!
