Should I be able to feel my RGP lenses

Postby Manby76 » Wed 26 Jun 2013 7:09 pm

Hi Folks

Been back to the hospital for my lens appointment, my old RGP's are still a decent fit, so they have left me to get used to them, before arranging for new ones, as my prescription has changed in my right eye.

I've been trying them for a week, and have managed to get up to 7.5 hours wear (increasing by about an hour a day - not sure whether that's the right way to do it), however I can feel them all the time, they cause my eyes constant irritation, even when using comfort drops, and when I take them out - I can't rub my eyes hard enough to get relief! My eyes are now really sore, and my already bad vision without glasses, seems to be getting worse.

My main question is - when my lenses are in should I be able to feel them - or should I only be able to tell they are there because I can see? My follow up isn't until the end of August, so any advise would be greatly received.

Thanks

Kerry

Hi Kerry,

No you shouldn't really be able to feel your lenses. Although you might have an awareness of them in the early days. If your lenses are causing constant irritation something is probably not right. You may have built up the wearing time too quickly, or you could be allergic to the material the lenses are made from or the solutions you are using. I would suggest that you contact the hospital and ask for some advice.

Hi

First advice would be NOT to rub your eyes no matter how sore they are, this can speed up KC.

I have a good fit with my RGP's but can still feel them - not painful but i am aware they are there.

I have started using Blink Extensive tears and they have become way more comfortable.

Thanks

If you feel the urge to rub (which can be very compelling) flood your eyes instead with artificial tears. I use Clinitas Soothe and always have a supply of indvidual dose vials in my pocket
