Hi everyone!
Pretty scared this a.m. I woke up this morning and tried to put my scerols in. I thought they were greasy as there was a huge cloud in them. Tried cleaning them again twice, but the same thing happened. Under closer inspection although i can't actually see properly i think the scar over my left pupil has dropped down and there appears to be some kind of white mass below the surface of the eye. Its pretty uncomfortable to blink, there is a slight burning sensation along with a little scratchiness and white gunk in the corner of my eye. I rang the doctors who have all tried passing the book this morning but finally agreed to see me after i had to complain when they asked me to come in the following day. Has anyone had anything like this before who may shed some light on whats going on? I'm not sure what have caused this (iv'e questioned myself whether it was my work or even perhaps the one celebratory cider i had for my friends birthday yesterday?)
Cheers
Tristan

Re: Whats happening???
Hi Tristan,
This sounds as though it could be a hydrops (where the back of a thin cornea tears and the cornea then looks white and cloudy). There's a good article on hydrops on the home page of this site, under articles about KC. Best to go to the A&E of your eye hospital (not sure if that's what you mean by 'going to the doctors') as a GP is unlikely to be familiar with this.
All the best, and let us know how you get on.

Re: Whats happening???
Hi Anne!
Thanks for your advise. I managed to get into the eye casualty this p.m. and yes was diagnosed with acute hydrops. I've been given a couple of types of drops to reduce the pressure in my eyes. They say my left is too weak to cope with the pressure now which has caused the issue. I've just this minute tried the drops for the first time and the left eye is burning a lot. Do you know if this is normal? Apparently it can take from 4 - 10 weeks to reduce the pressure and cure the hydrops which is a bummer for me because i cant wear the lens whilst being treated. You see i just got the financial go ahead at work for some big projects in the Tropical House, but the heavy work means i wont be able to get stuck in and get my hands dirty. Though atleast on the positive side i will be able to spend a little more time with my son!
Regards

Re: Whats happening???
Hi,
My daughter just had her first hydrops too, also left eye, it's rough. She has Down's so lots for her to cope with! You'll see from reading on here that your hydrops will just take its own time, seems to be no fixed guidelines for the darn thing! Hang on in there!
But still (and I make no apologies for the terrible pun) every cloud has a silver lining and your young son gets his daddy to himself! Take care, sorry I can't say much about the drops you mentioned, my daughter has some lacri-lube which is basically a gunky clear eye cream to lubricate her eye for comfort. Sure to be someone who knows on soon tho.
Best wishes.

Re: Whats happening???
Hello!
Please wish your daughter all the best. I really do appreciate how irritated she must feel at the moment. Thank you for your knowledge and understanding! Will definitely try out some lubricants. I'm also going to try wearing a black patch today. Having one good eye and one bad eye open together seems to be messing with my depth perception and balance a little. I think by concentrating the vision in the one good eye will resolve this some what and give the other eye a good rest. Is this something you are able to try out?

Re: Whats happening???
Nah not really. Charlotte won't entertain a patch of any sort but she is wearing some rather trendy shades when outdoors as the light is bothering her eye somewhat. It's basically a waiting game and praying that the residual scar not too central for eye when hydrops cleared.

Re: Whats happening???
Hi
Well my first day wearing a patch went pretty well. I cant tolerate the sun now and so it was a huge help despite weird looks i have been receiving from the public all day. I suppose it don't help that Cornwall is famous for it's piracy! The kid's seem entertained by me though. Both balance and depth perception greatly improved without distortion of the infected eye.

Re: Whats happening???
I recently had hydrops as well about 6 weeks ago on new years day..My vision is still kinda hazy and i am still not allowed to wear my contact for my right eye. Drs at Moorfield have told me that the scarring may settle down towards the middle of my eye thus may require graft soon. Just like you i am also really struggling with balancing and depth perception. My right eye is completely gone, meaning i dont see anything out of it anymore, but my left eye is very good after CXL which was carried out 6 months ago. Therefore i have one working eye
Anyway I hope your hydrops settle down asap and you can get back to wearing your lens, but its a long waiting game..Good luck
p.s On top of all that I went for my check up the other day at Moorfields and i was diagnosed with blepharitis as well. So i am really going through a bad patch, trying to stay positive
