Ian

I too wondered this and about the middle of 2004 when things were not so good lens wear wise and I was going through solutions really quickly, costing me a small fortune I asked my GP would he prescribe. He said he would under the circumstances if he could (scleral lenses are my only aid to useful vision) however he said I would have to check with the chemist if it was ok for my solutions or if not what others I could use. My GPs receptionist made the call for me and the answer came back NO. The solutions it seems are not on the prescriptions list and therfore can't be aquired in this way.
Pretty rubbish I feel if lenses are your only way of seeing (vanity does not enter into it as with some contact lens wearers).
Maybe other have views or comments on their experiences re this?

thanks Susan

I attend Moorfields Eye Hospital and get the Amidose saline that I use in my scleral lenses, together with Miraflow cleaning solution and ordinary saline for rinsing, on prescription at MEH when I attend for check-ups.

I don't understand why some areas of the country can get solutions on prescription and others cannot. However, I believe this only happens at the Hospital and I cannot get them on prescription locally from my GP - very strange. What's the difference? Its all the same NHS!
