Hey Chris,

Thanks for the reply and thanks for teaching me the correct term, it will make me look smarter the next time I see my optometrist lol I only wore the lens for about 10 minutes so I don't think it had to do with debris accumulation, I think it had to do more with the fact that when my eye lid moved the lens air bubbles use to form. I am hoping that the non "fenestrated" lens wont dry out the liquid faster because if I'm going to have to refill the lens every half an hour then what's the use?

The optometrist told me he is going to order the lens from the UK and in about 3 weeks I should get it, when I get my final pair I'll give you all a update as I too enjoy reading about other people's experiences.

People who've switched from RGP to these lenses - is the vision markedly better, or is the appeal mainly a comfort thing? I have excellent acuity with RGPs, but have become a bit of an obsessive about getting rid of the last traces of ghosting. Would these lenses be any good for that?

I just tried on RGPs, never took them home, I wore 3 different brands for about 15 minutes each during different appointments and besides the discomfort and drying of my eyes I experienced A LOT of ghosting. This lens has less ghosting, I think it still had a bit because of the air bubbles I mentioned earlier, but when I get a good fit I'll let you know if I still see ghosting. Right now I honestly can't say.

Hi all,

As promised I just passed by to share my experience with So2Clear lenses.

Well they were by far the most comfortable rigid lenses I tried on too date and the only ones that improved my vision...not to much but better than glasses.

This is obviously a personal experience, what happened to me might not happen to you.

- My eyes did feel a bit dry but not something you can't get use too.

- The lens use to "fog up" after 9h or so. Not sure if this effect would eventually fade.

- One of the main reasons I tried on lenses was to try to decrease the number of headaches I get on a daily basis. Unfortunately I did not notice big differences in this regard.

- Lastly, and let me stress that this is the main reason I did not purchase the lens, my right eye which has a intac is always burning, it has always been burning during the last year or so (before I started trying on the lens). I think the intac is the cause of this burning sensation. Sadly when putting in the lens that eye became intolerable and I had to remove it almost immediately. I am currently looking into removing the intac.

I do hope my experience does not put anyone off so please do give them a go if you can...so many people are happy with these lenses. I did not buy them because it would be bad for me to use a lens on one eye and not on the other....plus they are very expensive (240€ each).

Dear All

This is my first post ever.

I have been diagnosed with keratoconus since my 20's and am now in my mid 40's. I have been trying to wear `hard' (gas permeable) lenses on and off for over 20 years but to no avail. I have relied on wearing glasses in the main. However, at a recent check up with my optician he began fitting me with some soft lenses, they felt wonderful. He said technology had come on leaps and bounds since I last saw him.

Due to the lenses being custom made ..I appear to have few problems in my right eye but the left eye (even with glasses) is terrible, I am still waiting for the lenses to come in and go back for what I hope will be a final fitting.

Can anyone tell me if one can get some financial assistance with the costs of the daily fluid we are supposed to use And are these new lenses similar to the lenses you are all mentioning?...20 years ago I was told soft lenses, although they feel much better to me, could not be used with keratoconus.

Hello Bev and welcome to the forum,
Your optician is right - there are many more types of contact lenses to choose from for KC these days. SoClear lenses are a different type of hard lens, so if you're trying soft lenses, they will probably be Kerasoft or one of the other special soft designs for KC, which work very well for some people with KC (as you've realised, there isn't one lens design that works equally well for all KC people).
As for contact lens solutions, in theory if you get them from a hospital eye clinic, you should be able to get them on prescription. But in practice there are hardly any hospitals that do this. And with the cost of prescriptions these days, it probably wouldn't work out any cheaper now than buying them over the counter. There are also some good online sources of solutions which can work out cheaper.
