Preservative free hypromellose

Postby Loopy-Lou » Mon 11 Jun 2012 4:29 pm

Last time in clinic the optom said she wanted me to use preservative free hypromellose instead of the normal [I've been using it for 30 years].
Is this available on the NHS and isn't it in single dose little thingies rather than a little bottle?

Hi,preservative-free hypromellose 0.3% is prescribable under the nhs. They can come in 10ml bottles, but they have to be made at moorfields so take a few working days to arrive, but the 0.4ml unit dose vials will arrive at the pharmacy with their next delivery, either that afternoon or the morning of the next day.

Hi Loopy-Lou, I think an optician would be the best person to help. Short-wave UV light doesn't sound great.

Hi, yes, I'd agree with you Bijal

UV does disinfect surfaces BUT does nothing whatsoever to combat "biofilms" (what you might call "slime" but needn't be actual visible slime -- it can be pretty much invisible).

Also, doesn't continue to work once the UV source is extinguished -- unlike a disinfectant solution which will remain active for hours if not days.

Sorry Loopy  wish there was a magic solution (literally :) )

Cheers

Chris
