Synergeyes Clearkone stuck on eye

Postby Whiteshepherd » Sun 04 Mar 2012 7:44 am

I have had corneal ectasia for a number of years after getting lasik in 1999. Of course the docs never admitted that I had ectasia but in 2008 I was diagnosed with the dreaded ectasiai. The ectasia was worse in the left eye and I had cross linking and it seemed to freeze the progress at about 200/400 vision. Then I had a early cataract removed and I actually believe that I may gain some vision with the toric iol. Well, in the docs vision room I can sometimes get 20/40 or better even though outside the vision is blurred from the warped cornea. But they tried a Clearkone Synergeyes on me and let me tell you it has good vision but the eye seems to hurt after a few hours and if the lens gets dry watch out. On the third day of trying the lens I took it out and then placed it back in the eye with no problem, But within a few hours it fogged up for some reason and I could not get it out. I ended up in the er and it took them about twenty minutes to get the lens out. What the videos fail to tell you is that while the fingertips must be dry..the lens has to be soaked wet or it will not come off. So I went back to the doc and he says the lens is ok and wants me to keep trying it but I may go back to the regular scleral lenses. These Clearkone lenses just scare me in the evenings when they seem to dry up and I can't see much without the lens in. The right eye has a grade 2 cataract and a standard rgp lens that I wear and the rgp lenses are uncomfortable but can easily be taken out. Do you guys have any ideas on how to keep the eye lubricated and still be able to get the Clearkone lens out of the eye? Thanks

Brad

Brad

I use clinitas soothe. I use it with my lens in place and it keeps my eyes fresh and lubricated.

I will have to try that lubricant and see what happens. My lens got stuck on again today..I was silly enough to try the Synergeyes again. But after it fogged up I called the doctor and of course he said I could sleep in it if necessary but he told me to keep the fingers dry and soak the eye a lot with solution like they did at the hospital and see what happens. Well, it worked after an entire bottle of saline solution on it. So now if I use that lens it will have to be kept soaked or possibly switch to a semi scleral lens. Is the above lubricant really thick? I have eye allergies too that get gummed up easily.

Hello:

Synergeyes Clearkone is a nice design but not for everyone. If it does not work in your eyes, you´d better change to other lens modality as sclerals or soft as Kerasoft.

By the way this paper may help you:

Case Report
Severe Epithelial Edema in Clearkone Synergeyes Contact Lens Wear for Keratoconus
Fernandez-Velazquez, Fernando J O.D.

Abstract
Objective: The aim was to report three cases of severe bilateral epithelial edema (central corneal clouding [CCC]) in association with ClearKone SynergEyes hybrid contact lenses for the vision rehabilitation of keratoconus.

Methods: Retrospective case series of six eyes of three patients that developed CCC with ClearKone SynergEyes hybrid contact lens wear shortly after beginning to wear those lenses.

Results: Severe CCC was diagnosed on removal of the lenses. Despite attempts to modify the parameters of the lenses to reduce edema, two patients discontinued lens wear entirely, and one patient was able to wear lenses only on a limited basis.

Conclusions: Different degrees of CCC have been reported with the use of polymethyl methacrylate lenses; however, the condition may also occur with the use of ClearKone SynergEyes lenses. Although the lenses may provide good subjective responses, careful observation of the corneal response after 5 hrs of wear is advised.

The clearkone has become a medicine cabinet place holder because I am afraid to wear it. I tried it again and it was stuck in the eye but after soaking it for an hour or so I finally got it out. But I was scared. So I am probably going back to mini scleral lens or a reverse geometry lens because i don't want to end up in the hospital again because I can't get it out.

Thanks for your suggestions and information.

I tried clearkone briefly, but it felt like it was crushing my eye.

Whenever ive tried a soft lens and after a few hours its tough to remove, the best thing ive found is to just add a small capful of soloution to your eye.

Then wait a few moments whilst the lens absorbs the soloytion, and becomes alot more flexibld. It usually pops right out then

After wearing the Clearkone for a while it does feel like it is squeezing my eye. I also have a light prism effect on lights at night. The lens has become a shelf warmer because I won't wear it. It is too difficult to get out of my eye. My eyes are really dry so I guess I will have to return the clearkone lens. After wearing it and rinsing it and then placing it back in it gets fogged up from dryness and then It takes me an hour or so to get it wet enough to remove. But on the Synergeyes website it does mention dry eyes are a contraindication.
