Postby sarkac » Fri 24 Feb 2012 6:44 pm

i am planning to be in uk for a while , from april and wanted to know
>if its legal to drive with eyesight problems like KC, or do I need to inform someone
> what vision I need to drive. Do I need 20/20 on each eye?
I have 20/20 on right with glasses , 6/9 partial on left with glasses and 6/6 with RGP, which I can just not wear while driving :(
> is there a criteria for each eye?

You might have some problems if you're looking to charter a fighter jet, but don't worry about renting a car . Most countries require you to be correctable to at least 20/40 in just one eye for a license.

You an check out the legal requirements for sight to drive in the UK by visiting the DVLA

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Le ... DG_4022529

It is a good idea to notify the DVLA of your eye condition.

Thanks Andrew that was very helpful. I understand you can drive with glasses and contacts.
I would like to ask what your vision is like (the bcva) . I really dont know if i can read a license plate from 20 meters apart

I get halos around all lights, and ghosting at night. I hate it :( Unlucky for me, I have a driving job.

Still working with my lens fitter to try and reduce it.

Hello Munster,

Do you still drive at night? Is this not scary with al these halos?
What lenses are you wearing at the moment? Do they reduce the ghosting and light effects?

Tom
