Contact wear during INTACS and CXL treatment???

Postby h_dufresne » Wed 05 Oct 2011 6:27 pm

Hi I am due to go for a private consultation this November to discuss and have the necessary measurements made for INTACS and CXL treatment. I have been advised not to wear RGPs for the 3 weeks prior to the consultation. This could potentially be quite problematic as I'm currently in my second year of medical school.

If anyone who has had either or both of these treatments done could explain how long they were without contacts before, during and after treatment I would be very grateful.

Thanks
HenryD

Henry

Welcome to the forum.

I have not had either of those procedures, but have seen others posting about advice they were given not to wear lenses in the build up to surgery. I think that this was to allow their cornea to assume its natural shape rather than the shape 'moulded' by lens wear.

I am sure that somebody else will be along in a moment who can give a better account of things to you.

Hi

I've had CXL in both eyes, but not INTACS.

I'd go by what you've been told by the private consultant. This has topic has been posted before fairly recently, but I thought the advice that was given was to keep wearing them, on the grounds that lenses can help maintain a more normal shape which is good when it comes to CXL. Not certain though, so best double check with the consultant you're seeing.

Best wishes

Caroline
