Hydrops isn't always bad

Postby GaryD007 » Wed 07 Sep 2011 1:18 pm

Hi All

Been quite a while since I've posted here........been enjoying the last 14 months with our 1st baby girl !!!

Anyhow, last November I developed a Hydrop in my Left eye (always my worst eye) and couldn't wear a lens for 3 months. The Hydrop gradually healed and has left a small amount of scaring just below the centre of the pupil but I don't even notice this anymore. The upshot is that I now have 20/20 vision in my left eye with my new lens. Basically the hydrop has flattened the cone so much so that it has gone from -15 to -9.....my left eye is now my best eye. Part of me thinks "I wonder if I get a Hydrop in my right eye it would improve that as well ?? "

So although getting a Hydrop can be daunting and in my case extremely painful for a few days (due to tiny blisters in my cornea that had burst) the outcome can be quite good !!

Just thought I would share this with you all

Good for you Garry. You are right, the scarring left by a Hydrops episode can either ruin your remaining sight, or tighten the cornea so that your vision is improved.
