New and first time wearing RGP

Postby Monira » Mon 11 Jul 2011 5:26 pm

Hi all

I am new here. I was diagnosed with keratoconos not long ago and finally after 6 months I have had my RGP lens. My vision is very bad on the left and it is devloping on the right eye. Anyway, may I say how much I HATE them. At the moment I can feel that gritty feeling which is making me want to rub my eye pretty badly because it feels like a dry feeling. Also it is BLURRY.

I have to pay £52 a year for it and buy my own solution etc.

Also the silly lens keeps moving and getting stuck under my eye lids and it stings.

So what do I do?

Currently I am wearing them at home as I dont feel it safe wearing outside. It decided to pop out yesterday and I nearly lost it!

Thank you

Monira

Hi Monira and welcome to the forum,
You don't say how long you've had your lenses, or whether you've already had a follow up appt to check how you're getting on with them. It usually takes a few weeks to get used to lenses, building the wearing time up gradually day by day. But KC eyes can be difficult to fit and often the prescription and/or the fit need to be 'tweaked' before it's right for that individual. So do talk about the problems you're having at your next appointment (or make one if you haven't got one). Hopefully your contact lens fitter can improve things for you - but only if you tell them about your difficulties!
All the best
Anne

I had exactly the same problems and then I moved opticians and the new one suggested piggyback lenses, I wear a soft lens under the hard ones so the hard ones do not rub and also do not move about my eye, 100 times more comfortable and I have not looked back. Worth a go? Good luck. :D

Hi Monira

Welcome to the forum.

It takes time to build up lens wear time so don't be impatient with yourself.

All the best.

Hi all

Thank you for the replies. I have had these lens for the past 4 days. However i am scared to put them in and take it out. Everytime i blink it the lens gets blurry. It also feels like i am seeing fuzzy from both eyes even though lens is in one eye.

Thank you

Hi there, im in the exact same boat.

Its my first time wearing an rgp lens, and I still havent got used to it. Its confusing, because you dont know if its meant to be like this and then you get used to it, or whether the lens is wrong.

Ive been wearing mine, after work for a couple of hours each night for about 2 weeks on and off. It makes my left eye alot clearer, but things still blur, particuarly when watching tele and the vision just isnt quite right.

So i conatcted the hospital and got them to bring my follow up forward to thursday.

If your having trouble, its probably best to contact the hospital/your optician and go and see them :)

Thank you for that. I may just do that! So glad to know i am not the only one. Do you feel as if your eye feels dry even though it is watering? I left mine in for 3hrs today and i was relieved to have taken it off!

I hope they sort out your lens for you soon. I would so happily wear a glass but i know it wont happen as my eye is just too bad!

Thanks

watering eyes is actually a symptom of dry eye - yes i know it sounds like a contridiction.
