Sophie: I was at the similar situation in some aspects like you are. I was also adviced to go for graft 3 years ago with my right eye. My UCVA was about fingercount at 2m.
Well take my post as my view only becasue it is really hard to give precise answer what must be done :
1. Please definitely consult your status with other specialist or may be seek even third opinion before you make final decision
2. Graft is not a cure for KC and there is no way back when you pass it but nowadays it is the only option I know that can help the most severe KCers.
3. There are many new methods of KC treatment emerging nowadays (like Intacs, Ferrara ring, collagen cross linking method, Phakik IOL for KC etc.) but as far as I know central scarring is contraindication for them and it is a real problem.
My situation was different, my central cornea was clear and unscarred and after I passed intracorneal rings surgery 1,5 years ago I´m able to be corrected with glasses and I thank God I haven´t decided for graft as my doctor advised me that day.
I wish you best luck in your future steps and I hope your decision will be the right one. To makethe right decision (in any field of human life) you have to gather as much information as possible and educate yourself about the subject of decision. Please do it and I´m sure that you will decide wisely.

Hi Sophie,
I think that you should do whatever you can to hang onto your own corneas for as long as you can, you don't say how old you are but once you decide on a transplant there is no going back, I know you've tried a lot of lenses but I was always told by my doctor to do the least invasive procedure to rehabilitate your eyes.

Sophie at the end of the day its up to you, my advice if because of the scaring its an op that will cure your sight do one eye at a time.
