So if keraflex does become available would patients still need contact lenses after they have had that treatment?

My consultant said if I had the Keraflex I would still maybe need to wear contact lens or glasses afterwards.

so it would be more or less stil be same as having c3r done but slightly improve the curve on the cornea.

When will keraflex be available to have done? as i am thinking of having c3r done, wouldnt mind waiting a little longer for this i think might prove worth it....

I guess the idea is to provide a more stable cornea and better shape for the lens.

The clinic where i had my CXl done have taken delivery of the Keraflex equipment also. They will be starting trial soon enough. It will be interesting to see what results are achieved with it.

That is not the same as releasing info every six months.

Before everyone gets overly excited.... Keraflex is basically the same as CK - conductive keratoplasty. This has been used for years to "correct" presbyopia. As in reshape the cornea to correct reading difficulties due to ageing with applying radio waves in "hotspots" around the cornea in order to reshape it. The one problem with CK is that it wears off. Hence, I assume, the reason for applying CXL to the annulus area after applying microwaves.

The thing is... we do not know, at present time, how this will affect the cornea re fitting contact lenses post op as we do not have enough data yet. Everyone is saying it "should" make things better but no-one knows this as a fact.

If anyone is making a decision between waiting for KeraFlex and CXL, all I can say is that CXL results have an 8-10 year follow up. KeraFlex has only been in trials for 9 -10 months.

i live in blackpool and have had Keratoconus for the last 4 years.
i recieved a phone call of my Surgeon who told me about the Keraflex procedure.
He also thought i would be suitable so he put my name forward and i got the A OK.
I was meant to have the procedure done last week but it has been pushed back to December 4th (must say im starting to panick)
after I have had the Keraflex Procedure done, 1 week later im having the Collagen Cross Linking done to lock it in.
Once this is done I will post a reply to let you know how everything goes and what the procedure is like.

what is your km number
and what is your cornea thickness

i would attached the scans i have had taken back in July but it wont let me. i cant understand them very well so

if you can understand them u are better than me lol.

my left eye is KM 62.3d front and KM -9.7d back
my right eye is KM 50.1d front and KM-7.6d back

if that makes any sense to u?

i have just tried to upload the photo again but it still aint working. i will try again from home tonight.

i cant find anything on the graph for how thin it is.

it has a picture of my eye which is all different colours with numbers in. the number in the middle of the pic for the left eye is 71.7 and the number for the right eye is 52.0 (dont know if that means out to u.) its called a OCULUS - PENTACAM.

im only having my right eye done for now. because its only a trial and im a tester im getting it done for free. apparantly i could have my left eye done but he has said when it comes to locking it in with the collagen cross linking it takes a while to do, my cornea is to thin. he also told me they have a new type of machine which does the cross linking but it doesnt have a europe CE mark as of yet, but if that gets the ok its only meant to take 5 mins, so he said he would consider doing it then.
