Got a phone call out of the blue this morning asking if I can come in to have my corneal graft done this Friday! I think there was someone else booked in but they're stuck overseas. So I've said yes - wouldn't seem right to let a perfectly good cornea end up in the bin for want of a recipient. Going in this afternoon for my pre-op consult.
Can't believe it's upon me just like that - I was expecting a few more months' wait and then about four weeks' notice (not three days!) So currently figuring out how to arrange suspending my studies, wife getting some time off work etc.
I suppose now at least I've only got 3 days to worry about things...

i know how you feel. i had 22 hours notice! i think in retrospect it was better because i didn't have too much time to worry. i hope it goes well. just try to give yourself the 2/3 weeks required to recover from the operation.
good luck- let us know how it goes

Re: Graft suddenly upon me!
Thanks all!
Looks like I'm sorted on the practical side of things anyway - no problem suspending Uni registration for a month & wife's managed to get a few days off to look after me.
Not dreading the op TOO much but really not looking forward to all the pain and/or hassle afterwards. I haven't even bothered with contacts for many years, so I'll be going straight from just putting specs on in the morning to sore eyes, hospital appointments etc... oh well... just hope it does some good!

Re: Graft suddenly upon me!
I was bricking it when I had my left eye done, had a few weeks notice to wind myself up. In retrospect, the only 20/20 vision well have
' It wasn't worth the worry.
Don't smoke fags for a few days before if you smoke, eat a load of good fruit and veg the days leading up to the op and go in for it with amazement and wonder at what they are doing. Take an interest and ask question, then sit back and relax. To us its a major thing to them its just another op
