Julia

It sounds like things were done in an odd order, possibly because of the lateness of the hour. I think that, in a well integrated eye department like the one I visit in Scotland, the two strands merge into one. That said, there are two reasons we go to hospital clinics, one is the check on the health of the cornea and consider possible medical or surgical interventions (INTACS, ARK, CXL, Graft etc); the other is to consider ways of delivering good eyesight that can be accomplished without surgery, or that may be necessary after surgery.

I have had two grafts, and wear a contact lens in one eye and have specs for my other eye.

Every good wish.

Again, thanks all for your interest and replies.
My son has decided to make an appointment for an assessment with Ultralase (who did his original Lasik surgery in 2000) and fingers crossed they will support the treatment and management of his KC under their Lifetime care guarantee.
Not sure how he now squares this with the hospital though if Ultralase do 'come through' for him :S

Hi Julia
If this is a case of keratoconus developing as a result of the laser treatment done in the past, then you would think the original company would have some moral responsibility (and possibly even legal responsibility - do any of our health professionals know what the legal situation would be?) to provide any treatment needed. So it's certainly worth finding out what they say.
But at this stage, it's also worth seeing what the hospital optom can do with contact lenses. And corneal topography machines are a relatively recent development. Many of us here have had contact lenses very expertly fitted by hospital optometrists without the benefit of topography in the past. Experience with KC eyes counts for a lot, though of course it's great that there are now these wonderful technical aids.
