Re: Down's syndrome and Keratoconus
Cheers. Charlotte didn't make her appt yesterday (2nd March) she has been poorly all week with a really bad throat infection. She hasn't even worn her lenses since Saturday afternoon because she's been too sick.
We'll get another appt through for the eye clinic appt in a week or so, I spoke to the clinic on Monday to cancel.
Carleen especially, thanks for the sweet comments. I'm sorry to hear things are so tough for you and your Jennifer (an understatement I know). Char and I are sending you our best wishes (another understatement really but I mean it sincerely ). Take care. Angie4Char xx

Re: Down's syndrome and Keratoconus
Still building up wearing time after Char's throat infection last week. Left eye a little teary so wearing just the right for college and both in at home. She has got this annoying habit of touching her lashes................eyes not dry as we regularly soothe with drops. This concerns me greatly re hygiene. I've tried asking her to stop it, telling her to stop it, always explaining why she MUST stop lash touching, she usually does it when she's watching tv (relaxing) or in the car, any time when she's sat down doing nothing. Not sure what I can do to distract her really. I even told her that she gave herself a bug last week and that was why she was so poorly (could've been a contributory factor anyway so maybe not such a fib!) My worry is than she could develop an eye infection.........and then aggravate the KC to get worse. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Eye clinic in a couple of weeks so will mention it then, see what they suggest too. Apart from that, no probs!!

Re: Down's sydrome and Keratoconus
it sounds like a subconcious thing when she is touching her lashes. I fiddle with jewellery or pen lids when watching tv, on the phone etc without realising it - until my hubby grabs my hand or my sister/colleagues throws something at me
Why not get her a stress toy to keep her hands busy and away from her eyes when she is watching tv, may be worth a try.

Re: Down's syndrome and Keratoconus
Hi. Charlotte had a check up last week and the optom told us that she has slight pressure marks on both corneas which she suspects is from her CLs pressing. She's been wearing them for just over 6 months now with no probs. Just uses the systane drops during the day as and when. She ordered a new CL for Char's right eye which she said would fit better and explained to me that often the CLs cause these marks but they are only apparent after wear of lenses for sometime. I asked the optom if she thought it was the KC advancing but she said she couldn't say one hundred per cent that it wasn't, however if in 6 months time if there are marks there then she would say it was probably an advancement. The left CL stays as is for now. Char had a scan prior to us being told re the marks as the optom used those yellow drops to check the fit of the CLs. They could only manage to scan her right eye tho as she was too wriggly for the left. They will try again next time. She goes back next week after wearing the new right CL for 2 days so that they can check the fit of it. Charlotte has been managing well with her CLs, no complaints or discomfort aside from needing the aforementioned systane in for comfort. Its me who's panicking again
just when I'd more or less "calmed down" too. Charlotte would say if she was uncomfortable, she tells me on other issues so I know she's fine with her lenses. Anyone got any info re this latest? Thanks, Angie
