I have today been for an appointment at the hospital clinic and would appreciate some feedback.
I have been using flexi Edge lenses ( hybri type ) in both eyes, but in the right eye ( my good one ) we cant seem to get a good enough fit and my lower eye lid is lifting the soft skirt.
It has now been decided that I will revert back to the RGP lens using the piggy back system, as I simply can't get sufficent wearing time although the vision is superb.
I know some of you on here use this system so any pointers would be appreciated.
Also on the left eye, due to the steepness of the cone, the flexi edge lens had to be fitted very tightly to stop it catching the lower eye lid, but is very sore after a long days wear.
As always any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Fordy

All the best with this. I couldn't manage with 'piggy back' lenses, but I know that many people have found them both comfortable and that the system gives good correction.
If you manage to use this system, they will watch carefully for vascularization; a potential hazard that arises if the cornea cannot obtain enough O2 from the air.

Re: Piggy Backing Pro's and con's
Hello there!
I piggy back in my right eye as after 15 years of wearing a RGP my eye was getting very red and sore. Piggy backing is great as the comfort is excellent and I can wear my lens for over 15 hours a day with few problems! It does get a bit 'foggy' after many hours and I need to take both lenses out and wash them, but the vision is great again!
The main problem I have now is extra blood vessels on the cornea as my eye is trying to get more oxygen. Moorfields are worried in case I need a graft in the future, so I have been told to reduce my wearing time, which as you know is easier said than done! If I leave the plain soft lens out I can't wear the RGP for long but if I wear them both I am making this problem worse.
With my left eye I haven't been able to find a lens which is comfortable to wear, pre and post graft. Am now trying a kerasoft lens which is great, but vision is only four lines. This though is more my eye with long term scarring than the lens. I did try a kerasoft with the right eye, but the vision wasn't as good as piggy backing so I have sadly gone back to that.
Try piggy backing but be careful with how long you wear them. I try to leave mine out on the weekends and only wear them during work hours, but as you know there is more to life than just work and I would like to see well every day!! They are so comfortable though and the vision with a RGP is fantastic! Taking out a RGP with a soft lens underneath is fine, they don't stick together. PM me if you need anymore help.
Best of luck with it! Love Claire X x X
