Hang in there.

Don't worry too much about reading the snellen chart at this time.

Every good wish.

Thanks

I'm really concerned about the refraction. Going to read up about it on the internet as don;t really know what it means. I am starting to feel that the whole thing has been a waste of time as vision not going to be any better.

Is -8 really bad???

-8 not really bad, I'm -7.5 and with softe lenses for KC get perfect vision and been about this for 20 years post graft.

I have met people with worse that get perfect vision with lenses.

There are many factors that dictate how well you will eb able to see with vision correction of which astigmatism is just one, so only an optom would really be able to comment once they have looked at your eyes.

not had a graft, but I'm -14.5 and still get almost perfect vision with soft lenses!

Hi Crackerjacker,

I am in a similar situation to yourself.

I definitely agree with Andrew. A graft is a long term process and most graftees only obtain their optimum vision when all sutures have been removed. Until then it is a waiting game and 8 months is still early days.

The fact your graft is clear is very good news.

Thanks everyone. You have put my mind at more ease. I just didn;t have a clue what the scale went to anf from. Haven't been able to find anything on the internet to explain it but I'm useless at searching for things on the net.

I think my cornea may not be clear though as I recall my consultant saying something a while ago about worse case scenario would be another graft. I am going to email him tonight and ask if it is clear though.

Just worried me with discussing putting an implant into my eye (or something like that) and the fact that the distortion is too great for glasses. Knowing now that -8 isn;t really bad, i feel more at ease.

What does the scale actually go from and to?

Thanks again.

I'd not be too worried by the suggestion of a toric implant; they are not all that uncommon and do offer the possibility of very good sight without specs of contact lenses.

Do you know if the implant is available through the NHS?
