I was treated at the eye clinic in Southend Hospital in Essex. To be honest, I don't know if the scarring was that bad but it was the only option I was given. I couldn't see very much at all.
The procedure is usually by general anaesthetic because the operation can take a couple of hours so it is best to lie down asleep than sitting upright in a chair. I didn't 'see' during the op and woke up with an eye patch on which they remove the next day. They clean up the eye area and send you home the next day with an eye shield to wear. No pain at all! All very simple. I then went back for a check a week later and now I don't have to go back until 17th December.
My sight in that eye is not great but once the stitches come out, it can change.

Thanks John for letting us (me and others intested in INTACTS) know bout the status of INTACS in this counrty.
Can you please tell us how you found this out (did you ask for you to be referred or was it offered to you) ? Please keep us informed about any developments you hear about.
Do you know where we can find out if other people with KC can be considered (as policy) or is it done at the discretion of certain consultants (who has the power to do so).
Thanks for your post, at least its a new development to look forward to.
Everyone, Keep Your Head Up !!
thanks

Sajeev,
Intacs has just received European regulatory approval (CE Mark) for the use of Intacs in the treatment of keratoconus.

David,
Thanks for the info. I think it is just a matter of time when someone will come on this message board and tell us that they have had INTACS done. I don't mind giving my left eye (which is really bad) to medical trials for INTACS as I know that the proceedure is reversable and also by doing so I will help KC-ers in the long run.
Can anyone tell me how I can put my-self up for these trials.
Let me add that, if anyone has any more info. please let us know.
Keep your head up !!

I voiced my interest intially with my consultant about INTACS, he then informed me that the department are keen to start using INTACS to treat KC, however I am still waiting for a response from the head-consultant to see whether I have been accepted. I know it seems selfish but I would rather not mention over the internet which hospital I am registered with as many others may jump at the chance, thus jeopodising my chances of being selected.
