CCL fails ?

Hi

I have CCL done: 6 months ago in right eye and 3 months ago in left eye/

Comparing results of examination 6 months ago (before first CCL) and now:

Left eye: cornea thickness decreases from 572 nm to 566 nm. K1 increases from 43.4D to 43.5D

Right eye - cornea thickness decreases from 546 nm to 536 nm. K1 inncreases from 45.1D to 45.4D.

Was that your case too?

I had hope that CCL stops progresion. Now I'm wondering whether cornea will be still decreasing and K1 increasing

We all go into treatments with the hope that we will see immediate beneficial results, and we would need to be super-human not to experience disappointment if our expectations are not fulfilled.

What is your clinic saying about the situation?

I would also like to know what the tolerances are of the machine used to take the measurements?

There are only two readings but if you look at the maximum thickness change of -10nm (I think this should be microns and not nanometers) and the mean of the thinnest corena results, the change is less than 2% which for the scientific equipment I use to measure particle size in microns is within normal expereimental error and equipment tolerances.

As to K readings I am unsure on exactly how the numbering works to calculate the difference but if we assume it is like thickness the change is less than 1% so may well be within the instrument tolerances.

On a day to day basis you can get changes in the eye and it could be that on the day you had the measurements taken you had a bit of dry eye, slightly dehydrated and that may well affect the results.

To be honest you need to discuss this in more detail with your consultant and understand what factors can affect the readings obtained from your own health and the measuring abilities of the equipment used to name but 2 factors.

I have heard the cornea bounces around for some time post CXL, don't know if this is just shape or thickness, the only way to tell I think is by having regular measurments taken

I've got an e-mail from my doctor not to worry as every examinaiton may be affected by little mistake and the differences are very small.
