Just as a quick update to this......
after seeing a rather well known, London based, Optom for a second opinion, I have now been fitted with a pair of Kerasoft 3 lenses.
Although it's still early days, I am delighted with these and my vision is better than I've had in 10 years and now is easily up to driving standard in both eyes!
I would urge anyone who is having doubts to get a second opinion as I am amazed at what improvements can be achieved when you already think you are at the end of the line and nothing can be done!
Now, if I could only figure out how to get the damn things out at bed time........
Graft suggested, what to do...........

When you figure out how to get your new lenses out, let us all know. You never know when a bit of information may come in handy!

Hi Martin,
These lenses are so slippy it is hard to pinch them out, but if you take them out like you would an RGP lens, then they just roll out.
Using finger tips gently pull the eye lids apart.
Then while gently pushing the lid margins in to the cornea, push the lids together.
The edge of the eye lids gently catch the edge of the lens and push it out.
I know a few people who slide the lens to the edge of the eye and it crumples in the corner so you can just pinch it out.
Great news on the vison standar you achieved, no doubt the optom will still endevour to maintain the highest standard of vision for you.

Re: Graft suggested, what to do...........
Thanks Gareth, that is the technique I've been using and to be fair it usually takes maybe a dozen atempts and five minutes or so to get them out. I've only had them for 4 days so I'm sure this will improve.
Very pleased with my new optician - fantastic service

why?
I soon will likely have 6/6 or near enough in both eyes - with good comfort and all day usage.
What benefit may a graft give - I can see an awful lot of downsides?

I'm with you! Why risk your good sight on a venture that may leave you with worse vision for some time to come?
All the best

plus still probably with a need to wear lenses.
It is still a common misconception that a graft is a cure and will leave you with perfect vision.
The aim of any corneal surgery is to provide a more regular corneal surface whereby vision correction is easier.
