Andrew, it isn't exactly blinking them out but by pushing the eye lids in slightly and then down they do catch the edge of the lens as they are thicker than a normal soft lens.
Many of the popel I have spoken to that have trried the silicone hydrogel soft lenses have found them hard to pinch out because they are so slippy. My wife has 'normal' daily disposables and finds she needs to slide the lens to one side so it scrunches up in the corner of her eye before she can get a grip on it to take the lens out.

Lynn, surely you can't 'blink' a soft lens out of your eye? When I had my short experiment with soft lenses I used to 'pinch' it out; a procedure that looked spectacular but felt a bit ordinary.

When I first tried piggybacking, they tried to teach me to get the soft lens in first then put the hard lens in on top.
Trouble is, every time I blinked, the soft lens came out. Of dislodged itself, so it was sticking out at one corner. Well, you know what I mean, one part of the edge folded and stuck out.
Pinching them out sdoesn't seem to work - only way (apart from putting hard lens back, waiting a few minutes and trying again to get them both out together - is to try and lift up an efelid, then squeeze it down to try and push a fold up.
If I have a lens in the other eye, and can see in the mirror when there's a bit sticking out, and grab and pull it. Without a lens in the other eye, I can't and it's a mad panic.

I have never worn soft lenses so forgive me if this sounds stupid .... but can you use a plunger to get them out?
I use them to "suck" out my sclerals with great success, although remember to blink a few times or put some solution in first otherwise it feels like you are pulling your eye out.
Can these be used for other lens types, such as soft?

I honestly don't know, because they are soft I've never had the problem of them hurting when using eye lids to push them out. Plus I no longer work in an environment where the plunger was the safer means of lens removal. I used to work in an area where it would be essential to wash you hands before going near your eyes and the plunger menat you could avoid the need as it helped keep contaminated hands well clear of the eye.
I have an appintment on tuesday so I can ask the question then.

Re: Remove Soft Contact Lenses
oops Sorry Rosemary, Lynn and anyone else I confused I was so keen to type my reply I put the wrong name against the RGP lenses bit.
I'm grateful for all your advise and ideas. I will keep you informed as I go along on how the soft lenses work out, I've had a bad weekend with my right lens seem to have picked up an infection so its very itchy but I'm persevering with it as its still nowhere near as painful as my RGP's would be at this point.
I've given up on the pinching technique, just can't do it and I'm concentrating on perfecting the eyelid technique which seems to work better for me.
