From Andrews description I would say Systane fits into the same category of eye drops and is als available preservative free.

Perhaps in the FAQ section we should put a list of eye drops people recomend here as a starting point for people wanting to find releif?

That is an excellent idea: there are so many products on the market, and each of us has to find the one that is best suited to our own eyes.

I was disappointed to learn that some optometrists and ophthalmology clinics give no guidance.

I must say I was hugely dissapointed to hear that very few of my colleagues in Optometric practice are actually treating/managing dry eye in their daily routines.I know as fact from speaking to pharmacists that they feel as though every second prescription they dispense on the NHS is for dry eyes! I am sure the figures are not 50% although they are significant-£64 million according to Tony last night.
Personally I think it is the lack of a definitive test for dry eye that puts them off. Many are worried that they will be trying to treat dry eye when the the problem in actual fact lies elsewhere.

I was surprised, especially given the aggressive approach of my own optometrist and your own very obvious and helpful interest in the subject.

That said, I am pleased that nobody has ever used the cotton thread diagnostic technique on me!
