Hi Janet. It's either a small world or south/south east England residents don't have an amazingly varied pool of names to choose from!
Actually I got the dates mixed up and my St. George's appointment was today - I was only reminded when they phoned up telling me the doctors had cancelled all appointments that day. That's happened before with St. George's (not a good sign). So I must get to my GP for that Moorfield's refernce now.
Interesting your success with the Chinese medicine. 10 years ago my older brother (who also has the eczema bad) took the leap of faith and tried the Chinese herbal route. It cost him an absolute fortune (nearly half his student grant!) and it simply didn't work. Needless to say, that convinced me never to try it either. Now I rely on Cyclosporine, a powerful drug that represses the immune system and slows down the rate of skin cell shedding (which is what eczema basically is). The eczema (which is all over everywhere for me) and itching is still bad but the drug has brought it down to a managable degree I've never before experienced. A blessing and a curse - it's good to be able to actually move my limbs and do normal things but it's an ugly anchor to have to rely on.

Hi KateF,
Thanks for the info. The mini migraine aura suggestion does makes sense and would seem to fit. I sometimes get full blown migraines; nausea, intense headache, vomiting etc. Like you, migraines usually arrive when I am overtired, stressed, havent eaten properly etc.
At the time I experienced the visual problems, I had been working on the PC most of the day (about 8 hours or more), it was very hot outside, I'd only had a sandwich all day and not much to drink either.
Your message was good news in two respects. A) I thought something bad may have been happening with my KC and B)I'd much rather have the mini aura than the real thing.
Many thanks again for responding,
Sue B

Can any scleral wearers help me please. I have just had a check up with my Optometrist and have been told that I have got blood vessels growing into both corneas due to lack of oxygen.
It hasn't happened to me yet, at least not to any dangerous
extent but it is a risk for all of us. It happens because the
oxygen that gets to corneas wearing contacts, dissolved in
tears, is less than what comes to a "naked" cornea from walking
around lens-less.
only advise that he could give me was to reduce my wearing time. I am going to find this difficult because I have awful vision
in glasses and cant tolerate corneal lenses.
You could try wearing them one at a time - then one is always
resting and getting re-oxygenated while the other is working.
I've been doing that for years (not just for reasons of
preventing blood vessel growth). It does take a bit to get
one's brain round the strange look of the world, I do admit, and you don't have much of a sense of distance (so don't drive! -
and playing tennis is raaaather difficult), but you do get used
to it.
The other thing that might help is to make sure you aren't
getting air bubbles under the lenses when you put them in - once your cornea has "breathed" all the oxygen in the bubble, it then gets no more from the air, and less than it would from tears
flowing past.
I thought that the
sclerals were meant to have really good gas permeability
nowadays.
They're better than they used to be - certainly much better than the old lenses without ventilation holes - but not as good as
fresh air.
Hope this helps. Sorry to hear you're having this problem.

I read the message from Ken Pullum with regard to saline "drought". Has any consideration been given to importing non preserved saline solution from the USA? CVS pharmacies sell a generic brand at very reasonable prices. The bottles come with screw lids, so there is no problem at resealing to prevent contamination. I have used this product for 6 years with scheral lenses. No burning sensations, whatsoever...
Well.... As you can see we have a new look web site. This is the work of John Smith. John is a professional web site designer. (I think it shows!.) He has taken the tangled mess that I have developed over the last few years and worked on all the pages. sorted them out and presented them as you see now. John and I are going to be working together on the site from now on.
For the moment, the old site remains in its place, on the web. We have set the first page to divert you to the new look site while the new site is reviewed, and may be updated.
I hope you like the new easy read approach. We would welcome any comments you have.
I would like to say a BIG Thank you, to John for his hard work and his major contribution to the group.
Thanks. Tony

Hi, just checked out the new website. Nice to see, unlike many other websites, that the layout still works fine when I set the text zoom to maximum in my browser (300%). I'm sure a lot of us have to view the site at an increased size to varying degrees (even with my lens in I increase it slighty). But I noticed the photographs don't appear, even if I refresh the page etc. Is this a glitch or aren't they in place yet? Anyway, a great improvement - keep up the good work!

hello
just to say that the web site is great. well done !
i am coming up to my first year of having transplant (aug 7th ) and still worry about about rejection , so far on that score i have been ok.
i am really struggling with the sun and live in sunglasses, each morning eyes ( mainly op eye) is sore, swollen slightly, and very red and watery, does anyone else suffer this ? by 11am its all cleared up so by the time i get home from work its ok!
also having spoken to a few people i have been told that when you have had transplant that you shouldnt try to have a baby due to pressure etc has anyone else been told this ? also i have looked up on the web about my eye drops that i am still using and it does say that if you have a rejection the eye would be number 1 proiety and not baby .
i was told to not have a baby within 5 years of graph , just wondered if anyone can help !
please feel free to email me anytime !
thanx

er, that's a bit scary, haven't heard of that one. We want a baby, but I've had my graft now for 11 years so i guess it should be ok! I was told not to go bungee jumping because of the pressure on your eye as you descend, but I'm too much of a wimp to do that anyway! Does anyone know about the baby thing?! help us! lesley
