C3R Results after thre months (STill Blurry) Help

Postby wesryan » Tue 02 Dec 2008 1:19 pm

To all

I have had the C3R surgery done in my right eye 3 months ago. The surgery has corrected my eyesight by 3 diopters however my eye sight is now not as clear as it used to be. The doctor states it is due to astigmatism. I have just gotten my new eye glass prescription and my eye sight is very blurry. In your opinion will this blurriness go away over time as my eye gets use to the new prescription. Has anyone else experienced this and / or has advise.

Please let me know if you need more detailed information to better determine the cause.

Hi wesryan, and welcome.
SOrry to hear the vision isn't all you hoped.
As regards astigmatism - I'm having that problem, as my grafted eye is getting more and more astigmatic.
And reading is getting harder.
If you're astigmatic, then lines at certain angles with be in focus at one distance, and lines at different angles at another distance.
In my case - and this is particularly noticeable if I'm doing something like a circular crossword or spidoku puzzle. The lines going roughly 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock are in focus with the page 4" from my face, and those going roughly 1 o'clock to 7 o'clock ... well that keeps changing, but it's got to about 7" today.
Can you try this yourself with - well, an ordinary crossword or sudoku will do if you keep rotating the page.
It may be that your eye is getting more astigmatic as it settles after the CXR - in which case, maybe your specs haven't cuaght up? - that is, they are made with the correct "sphere" prescription ot correc tyour overall short sight, but not the up-to-date "cylinder" measurement to correct the astigmatism. If which case, getting used to them won'tbe much help.
(Well, you might find yourself getting used to blurry vision and making sense of it, but it won't make it sharper.)
I'd suggest you go back to where you got the glasses from, explain the problem, and get them to re-test you. And to check if the new glasses actually have been made to the right prescription.
3 months after the CXR, though, your eye might still be changing and settling, so getting the glasses right might be a case of hitting a moving target.
Rosemary

Do you think that contacts would work better? I hate the hard contacts but I am guessing that with soft lenses I would still have the astigmatism.

Also I just got the new lens for my eye yesterday. Do you think that it will get better over the next few months. Also in your opion how long till it settles.

Lastly if my vision stays the same. Would intact fix the astigmatism.

Right now I am glad I only did one ye. I would not be able to see anything if I had nboth eyes done.

Hi Wesryan ,

I recently got my CXL done , blurry ness do come , I think waiting is all we can do .

I hope you get better soon .

astigmatism can be fixed with new soft lenses like kerasoft 3 . I am getting one tomorrow , so I hope it works .

Intact vary from person to person as the cone varies ... Best person to tell you this will be your surgeon .

Like I have central cone and doctor said Intcats are not advisable but implant may be a an anwer in future.

Can you let me know the results of the soft lenses. My next appointment is in 3 months so I will check with the doctor on the soft lenses then.

Yeah sure i will post update.

Also if it been three month you may get soft lens because the initial cost will cover first and last . This is for private .I am not sure how will it work otherwise.

Thanks for the help. I was hoping for better vision and it looks like it is worse. I am curious if othr people in the forum have had this procedure and what the results were.

My doctor did say that my new prescription would "rock my world". I am guessing because it is so different than my old. If this is the case then do you think my eye will take some time to get use to the new lens. If so how long. My next appointment is in February. Man oh man.

wesryan,

Vision is very variable after CXL and remains so for 6 months at least so you have a way to go yet. One problem with wearing spectacle lenses is that your vision tends to be more uncomfortable as it varies as opposed to when wearing contact lenses. Astigmatism means that your cornea is curved more one way than the other and if this is a medium to high amount, even a small change in the "axis" (i.e. angle of the astigmatism) can make vision through glasses blurry. Patients tend to be more comfortable in contacts when their vision is varying but that can be a very subjective issue!

Astigmatism can be corrected up to quite a large degree with soft lenses for keratoconus (e.g.the KeraSoft3).

Well here is an wierd sitaution. I was playing around yesterday with various glasses I have around the house. Just was thinking my vision should be better or something. I took my lens from my left eye (has not had surgery on it) and flipped it over. Instantly my vision was much much clearer. Granted it is scewed but I am thinking this is from the fact that the lens is not meant to be flipped over. HA HA. Anyway I amy call my doctor and have them check my prescription. What do you think?

I may just have to patient and wait till my 6 month check up and then talk about soft lenses.
