Yay we have made progress.
Went to the hospital today and explained all the problems we've been having.
After re-checking the lens she decided to try a smaller one - it's so small it will fit on the end of my pinkie.
When she put it in Zach couldn feel it - in fact in went to the corner of his eye which usually causes him to scream in pain- this time he happily pushed in into place. The perscription was slighty out but even with so the difference in his sight was amaizing.
We get the new lens in about 10 days and he's now really excitied about having it. We've also set a "target" of him putting it in at least before our next check up.
He still needs to wear the other lens for a few hours each day just so his eye doesn't "forget" the feeling.
So fingers crossed that the all is well with the new lens - thanks again for the support - it's such a relief just knowing there are people who understand. x

Re: Update on 12 year old
Great news, Dotty - and Zach.
That sounds much better.
Unfortunately, the lens that looks the best according to the "rulebook", the one that gives the best vision, and the one that feels most comfortable to the wearer are not always the same. Indeed, sometimes, they are three completely different things!
SOmetimes, it is a compromise between the three to get the best overall outcome.
It sounds like you'll all be far better off with this new approach. Let's hope it really does work out like that.
Do keep us posted.

PS: best wishes with the fibromyalgia too. Hpe it's soon recovering from recent stressors and back under control as well as can be.

Re: Update on 12 year old
Good news!!
It takes a while to get the hang of how lens fitting goes from a patient point of view. Now, for example, you will know that if you have issues, simply explaining to the fitter will often get it sorted quite easily. And its always worth noting that if the problem is really impacting on you, its always advisable to ring up and check with the clinic.
Now I am not advocating ringing up about every little query, but I also know that some people worry about "bothering" the staff. So if anyone has a problem that is really worrying, it is always better to ring up and ask reception whether they need to talk to a professional or not about it. Sometimes weeks of worrying can be avoided by a simple explanation or indeed a real problem can solved quickly by getting you in to see them sooner. Once you are more expert in wearing lenses, then you tend to know what is and isn't urgent. Just thought I'd add in those extra points!

Re: Update on 12 year old
Thanks for the replies Ladies - I can't believe that Zach is now counting down the days until he gets the new lens - just keeping everything crossed that it works out. He's even asked how long before he get's the one for his right eye!!
As for our clinic - the worst thing is that the "lens lady" is only there one day a week and there is never anyone else around who can answer my questions. But I'm trying to be more prepared now and have them written down.
And the Fibromyaglia - what can I say - there are good days and bad. I'm just thankful that's it nothing worse!!!
I'll keep you up to date - I can't tell you how nice it is to have people understand - most of my friends think I'm nuts making such a big deal out of this - maybe I am but that's another story lol.

Dotty
I can only imagine what it must be like for you living through this at 'one remove'. I guess it is always harder for parents to watch their children go through a trial than it is for an adult to go through the experience for him or herself.
I hope that the new contacts do the trick.
All t he best
