Eye graft done!

Postby magicbug » Sat 06 Oct 2007 11:26 pm

Hey All,

I've finally had my eye graft done on my left eye on Monday (1st October) I'm told it was a partial one. although I cant see anything decent out of the eye I can see an improvement in the blurriness!

Vision in my good eye (right) seems to be poorer than it normally is.. is this normal? my general vision seems rather odd I'm guessing its the brain getting used to the graft and will start to improve?

I'm also finding the stitches really uncomfortable when I blink/move the eye but I'm just hoping I'll get used to the feeling!! apart from that I'm pleased its done and hope i can get some good vision from it. I'm due back at the hospital for a check-up on Monday.

Magicbug,

Good luck with the recovery, a partial graft (DALK) is often very blury at first while the new cornea settles onto the eye.

Quite normal to notice poorer vision in the remaining eye because you are nor solely relient on that one eye, it is surprising what information the brain can get from an eye with very poor vision.

You are quite right your odd vision is down to the brain getting used to the change.

It took me about a week to get used to the stitches in my eye, but being strict with the eye drop regime you will have been given and using something like ibuprofen every now and then often helps.

If you have any concerns just give the ward at the hospital where you had the op done a call.

Gareth,

Thanks for the reply and info put my mind at rest somewhat, vision seems to be returning to normal in the right eye which makes it more bare able, did scare me a bit at first.

Eye drop regime is good as I'm at home mum and sister have knocked me into shape and i make sure they go in at the right time! Hopefully the doctor will be happy when i see him tomorrow morning.

Peter.
