What is this??

Postby timtim » Tue 11 Sep 2007 12:20 pm

The past few days, my left eye has been feeling a slight irritation and getting red on the edge of the colored part of my eye, right up against the white part. It happens when I'm wearing my new RGP's. The irritation is very slight, but it gets somewhat red right in that area. Last night, I noticed a small spot on my eye right there. It's hard to tell what the spot looks like, but the best way I'd describe it is like a small oval. I know the first step is to get in touch with my doctor, but I can't reach him until later today. I won't be wearing my lenses until I talk to him in case this could be bad.

Any ideas what it could be? Is the lens rubbing the eye wrong? Could this be anything serious??

Thanks

Tim

I have never heard of the effect you describe. I reckon you are wise not to wear your lenses until you can have this checked.

Please let us know how you get on.

Yours aye

Timtim,

Just wanted to drop in and say that I hope that things went well today when you went to get your eye checked? Please let us know how you got on, I really hope that it as nothing to worry about.

My RGP used to irritate me and make my eye red as well which was very annoying! I now piggy back with a soft lens underneath and have no problems with it.

Take care, Sweet X x X

He checked it out and said it looked like I poked myself in the eye...I don't remember doing that :?

I get the feeling that that particular lens may have been rubbing that spot the wrong way...I could feel a stinging in that area after wearing them a while.

But he didn't seem concerned, and it has seemed to get better. Plus, those lenses were temporary ones that I was wearing while I was waiting for my final fitting to come in, which it did yesterday. Just put the new lenses and they feel better. Vision is quite good as well, so I'm all in all happy :D

Tim

I frequently poke myself in the eye while I am asleep; or rather, I would if I did not wear an eye shield at night.

All the best

Andrew - what sort of eye shield do you wear? I sleep face down, with my head turned slightly to the side, and I often wake up aware of lying with a lot of pressure on my eye, which can't be good for it. Would an eye shield help with this? If so, where would I get one?

Thanks :D

Well, I thought the problem was over, but it has been getting worse lately. I phoned my doctor yesterday evening, and told him it is happening again.

The problem is, after I have my lenses in for about 6 to 8 hours, my left eye starts to sting and it gets pretty red right on the white part on the inside of the coloured part of my eye (don't know all the teminology). I still notice a little mark on that area.

Doctor said it's not anything that will cause long term problems, but he is going to see me on Monday. It feels to me like its rubbing that one spot (causing the mark on the eye) in an uncomfortable way, and after so many hours, my eye can't take it anymore and gets red and starts to feel irritated.

Hi there, it is good that you are going to see him soon as he will need to look at your eye with the slit lamp to see what is happening. I would try not to wear the lens for too long, try to leave it out as long as you can. It is probably rubbing your eye so you will need to be careful with it. Are you using any drops to help with the hydration? My lenses do dry out after a while and I need to put some drops in to help them move easier.

Take care and hoping it goes well at your appointment, love Sweet X x X

I'm using Blink rewetting drops. He recommended that I put them in more often than usual today to see if this helps the problem. What I am going to do until I go see him is just put the lenses in before I go to work in the morning, and then take them out immediately when I get home. That way, I'll wear them for about 9 hours and I'll get to rest my eyes as much as possible. I also have some Systane at work, so I can pop the lens out for a while and put some of that in if it gets bad at work. That should hold me over until I see him next week.
