I'm hoping those of you who are natives of North of the border can help me here!
I am going to Edinburgh for a few days at the beginning of October - main purpose is for work, but am going to extend my trip so that I can see something of this lovely city, and hubby is joining me.
I have heard that there is a very famous fish restaurant, possibly in Leith rather than Edinburgh itself, but I don't know what it is called! I tried "google" and found that there are several in Leith all claiming to be the best! So I have some questions....
**Is there "one" restaurant which is "the" famous one - if so what is it called?
**Can anyone recommend any other particularly good restaurants - fish or otherwise (not Indian please) in the city or elsewhere close by?
**If you had just one day, and two evenings free in Edinburgh - what would you go and see?
We are staying in the City centre and won't have a car with us.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Trip to Edinburgh
Leith has many extremely good restaurants, but if it is seafood you want then, in my opinion THE restaurant is Loch Fyne Oysters

Enjoy your visit to Scotland's Capital. It is a pity you are not coming to the real cultural and commercial heart of Scotland (Glasgow

Re: Trip to Edinburgh
Many thanks Andrew.
You'll be pleased to note no doubt that I have been to Glasgow several times - and I agree, a great city it is too! As is Aberdeen (in case we have any Aberdonians about to shout!) - met some fantastic guys there once, just off the oil rigs - we had an absolutely hilarious evening with them as they made up lost time from their enforced "dry " period! But boy did they have some stories to tell!

Enjoy your visit to Edinburgh. My wife's sisters and their families all live in the windy city (not Chicago: the Scottish one).
I am pretty sure that if anyone told you about THE seafood restaurant in Leith they must have meant Loch Fyne Oysters. Either that or they were mistaken!

Pat, you could do one of the open top bus tours on your free day, or do a walking tour of the Vaults or a Ghost Walk, or go to the castle or the zoo or forget all that and go shopping!

Re: Trip to Edinburgh
There are some wonderful galleries and museums in Edinburgh, including the Scottish National Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
