Hi everyone, I posted here some times ago asking about kerasoft lenses ... now I have one kerasoft lens in my left unlucky eye and ... well it works quite well, even if vision is a bit lower compared to what I got with a Rose K rgp by another fitter. However when I went to the italian dealer to try kerasoft the fitting procedure was quite fast .... and after just one try and over-refraction he said that he had the right lens ... Having no alternatives I ordered them .... I am quite surprised by the fact that I have -8.50 sph -3 cyl ax 100 on the kerasoft meanwhile when I went to try the rgp I had a -21 sph over-refraction.
Why these great differences ? Can someone explain me ?
I'm almost sure that it would be possible to make this kerasoft working a bit better for me ... but here in italy this lens is almost unknown and not suggested by most optometrists for KC cases.
However I'm quite happy .... it's nice to see with both eyes !
Got Kerasoft today !

Hi Kiaz!
Its a difference in the way soft and RGP's fit. An RGP which is small, is sitting very much on the steeper part of your eye whereas the soft covers the whole cornea, including the periphery which pretty much has a "normal" curvature. The RGP also sounds like it has been fitted steep to avoid rubbing your cone - that ususally means you have to work more power into the lens to compensate, as the tear layer under the contact lens acts like a lens itself (its shape is determined by the front surface of your eye and the back surface of your contact lens).
Soft lenses generally don't give the same crispness of vision as RGP's but on the other hand, your eye may still have to settle down after "coming out" of the RGP.
What actual line of vision do you get - do you know?

Hi Lynn, thanks very much for the explanation.
With the Kerasoft I read 5-6/10 ... meanwhile with the rose K I got 7-8/10 . With glassess or daily disposable soft lenses .... less than 1/10 with my bad eye ...
Ok, I understand that fitting a rgp is something totally different from fitting the kerasoft and I can't compare the powers of the two lenses, they work in a different way.
I would prefer the kerasoft even if I see less because I'm a sport praticer and also at work I often have to go in extremly dusty places or to climb on houses roofs to check wireless antennas (I work for a Wireless Internet Service Provider). However, the lens fitter who's fitting the RoseK rgp proposed me a "reverse piggyback" system (a extremly high DK silicone hydrogel soft lenses fitted OVER the rgp) .. I don't know if this is worth trying or it's better being satisfied by the kerasoft ....
What do you think ?
Other italian specialists told me that piggybacking, reverse or not, is madness .....
