Hi Sue - congrats on all your miles of walking, too. Shame we
didin't meet; maybe next meeting?

As regards long/short haul - you're talking to the person who
flew to South Africa for a three-months stay in Swaziland and
managed to fly hand baggage only! - fortunately before the
scissors rule came in, as I wouldn't have liked to have had to
guess how much Amidose I'd use in three and a half months and
cut off all those tips! - let alone all the leaks, cos I did jam everything in very tight!!

I'm afraid I avoid hold baggage whenever possible - not only cos it is an encumbrance when I have to take my handbag and my
laptop with me and don't need the extra bags, but cos of the
extra delays in waiting for it, and the possibility it will end
up in the wrong place, and/or be stolen (a fate to which I'd
think a large case with nothing but a pair of nail scissors
would be singularly prone!)

Oh well.

Hi bob thanks for your message went into the chat room I think but was all alone Am not really use to using the internet yet. I have read some of the messages it seems as though most people are wearing contact lenses. I am due to start wearing one soon. It has to be made first as usual my eye shape is causing lots of problems. How long have you had KC. I am 34 and have 3 children all of which as yet show no signs of KC quite a worry to think you might pass it on to your kids. tell me about you. sally.

Hi sally thanks for your reply.Iam 42 and have had KC for about ten years perhaps longer.I have it most severe in my left eye and mildly in my right.Iam wearing rgp lenses although I don't always wear the right one(but I should).I have just recently been off work for 2 months with a corneal ulcer in my left eye, this is not for the first time and it is very painful>Iam told by the hospital that my eyes are naturally dry and this is probably the main problem that or poor fitting or cleaning routine.I would be interested to hear from anyone else on the site who have hadd ulcers. At the moment I have returned to work and just feel the eye is getting back to normal.Iam also waiting to see the consultant as I have'nt seen him in a long while,I have only been seeing the contact lens consultant.I have two daughters 9 and 14 they dont appear to suffer KC as of yet.Anyway enough of me,perhaps we will catch up with each other in the chat room or anyone else come to that, speak to you soon regards Bob

Hey People!

Whats up? Am at school at the moment and bored stiff, think I actually have too many free oops study periods. For a while now my eyes have not given me any bother although I still can't see with my lenses. I am actually not wearing them as much as I should. Anyway what I would like to ask does anyone know where a suitable place would be to do my work experience? It starts on the week 24th of Feb. I would like to do psycology or something along them lines but there is absolutely no place to do it here. Anyway must go before i am kicked out for doing no work, just thought I'd say Hi! Chat to you all soon

Lots of Love,
Emma

re Steripod saline
No probiem with scissors-- the ampoules have tops you just twist and they come off. I get through about one pod a day. I fill the lens with saline but since the right is very old with a large slot, I suspect the effect is largely psychological.

Louise talked of seeing huge craters in her face when she first
got her new lenses:

never quite had that experience - what really struck me when I
first got my lenses (sclerals, about, ahem, 27 years ago now!)
was the crossword in the news paper - how much white space there was around the clues and between the lines in the clues, and how big the white squares were for the letters to be written in.

Ah!! Thanks very much for that. That's *very* worth knowing
for flying abroad. I'll have to mention the subject and the
steripod to Our Ken when I next see him.

As regards the slots - I've still got an old PMMA lens for my
right eye with the little air holes ("fenestrations", in
Moorfields-speke) - and yes the saline, and in the Good Old Days the K-Lens, drips through them - it can be quite a challenge of
manual dexterity to fill it with saline, put the tube down and
put the lens in before it has all dripped away. And not find
the tube has been knocked off onto the floor or the empty coffee cups in the sink......

Hi folks, apart from seeing 'holes' and 'craters' on my face when I had new lenses years ago, I was also amazed to discover...light switches! and walls and steps having edges to them and my relatives developed faces, it was like being reborn. However they are so damn painful sometimes with any grit in the air getting under the lens, and it's always when I'm about to do something important, so I cope with this by muttering [or shouting if I'm in my bathroom] abuse at my lens. Lens Abuse helps me to cope, though god knows what people have thought when they've caught me out in the ladies spitting venom at my finger with the lens perched on it, "you piece of plastic shit, you're not fit to be a carrier bag", So if any of you are at Moorfields and see some strange woman hurling abuse at her finger in the toilet, it's me.

I was diagnosed with KC about nine years ago, started wearing rgp lenses bought from local hospital on nhs.
Havn't worn them for some time because I work in a dusty environment, and am reluctant to wear at work still. I could do with new lenses, I am planning on see a consultant soon, is this the best way to get new lenses these days? and what do opticians have to offer?

My first lenses surprised me, I could see the rain drops on a car windscreen like I was looking through a microscope.
