off on my hols...

Hi everybody
I'm off on my hols for a couple of weeks now - going on a long cruise in the Med. After all the hassle I've had lately I am really going to chill out!

Hope the Manchester Group meeting goes well.

Now I know how to post a photo, maybe I'll try some holiday pics for you all later!

Have a great time, I should think the weather will be scorching. Do you join the ship in the med or do you have to cross the bay of biscay?

When she was expecting either my brother or myself, my mother sailed in an unladen tanker from Scotland to the Persian Gulf (my brother and I were both born in Abadan).

The thing about an unladen tanker is that it tends to bob about high in the water, so rides over every wave. (Laden, the same vessel is heavy enough to plough through all but the largest swell.)

I am given to understand that when she was being tossed about by the rough seas of the Bay of Biscay, she had given up the will to remain afloat!

I hope your vacation is as good as mine was!

I just got back from two blissful weeks in Southern Brittany.

We had good weather, good food, excellent booze and access to a fantastic swimming pool which my kids just loved.

T'was just perfect really.

The other plus point was I had no lens hassles at all. Just slipped them out to go into the pool and then back on again afterwards. Funny how I can see really well under water...anyone know why???

One slightly amusing point was on the Ferry out of Portsmouth to St Malo, I was standing on the windward side at dusk with the wind really blowing hard into my face.

Suddenly panicked that my lenses had dried out and were floating away with the wind...arrgghh.

Of course total baloney but I don't recommend standing on the deck of a ship for too long with lenses...if the wind did take them, I doubt you's see them again.

Anyway, if anyone wants a recommendation for 2007...try Southern Brittany....just perfect.

You seem to see better underwater because the water naturally magnifies images. Perhaps water is exactly your prescription
Don't be fooled, its actually very hard to judge distance underwater.

Hi Everyone
Treat this as an electronic postcard- I've found the cyberstudy on board ship!

Having a great time on my cruise - went from Southampton on a gloomy day - but the Bay of Biscay was really quite calm for a change although the weather was very dull and quite misty. And then the sun started to shine in Cadiz and has hardly stopped since - unlike for you guys in the UK if Sky news is anything to go by! (Hope none of you have been flooded out or sufferred any serious damage.)

Also been to Sardinia, Rome and Sorrento so far (very hot at each place) and now currently at sea around the bottom of Italy on our way to Dubrovnik in Croatia tomorrw, then on to Corfu and Sicily after that. It's really quite exhausting, and so many decsions to make - what to eat for breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and late night snacks, and what to drink and where.........! Seriously food is available 24 hours a day if you want it - and I am amazed at the amount some poeple are managing to stuff down their gullet every day! I'm struggling with just having breakfast and a 5 course dinner in the evening!

Am finding the wearing of lenses on board, (hard or soft ) very difficult - the Ship is heavily airconditioned inside - and somewhat breezy on deck so very drying. But at least I don't feel out of place wearing sunnies all the time!

Anyway must go now - deck quoits calls! And then it's a "formal " night tonight - Tux and Bow ties for the gents and evening dress for the ladies!
