Elizabeth R

I hope you are joking about sleeping with lenses in? :?

By doing so soft or hard you run a very high risk of doing irreprable damage to your cornea.

I know of several cases, 1 of which the parents of the young man concerned discussed at the 2005 confrence. He went abroad on holiday and after a late night slept with his lenses in. He was in hospital for a few days instead of enjoying a holiday due to the damage the lenses did to his eyes. He got flown back to a UK hospital and then had to go on a waiting list for a graft.

So after ones nights foolishness went from correctable KC to no vision needing a transplant!

It takes 12 - 18 months to get reasonable vision back post graft too.

It is far better to look after the corneas we have got even with their failings.

My eyes inthe orning?? - about as bleary, dopey and still-asleep as my brain is.
In other words - I'm one of the people who are never areally awake inthe mornings before aboout 10.30 and the third cup of coffee (and I'm not awake enough to drink coffee first thing - stick to hot choc from breakfast).
I try to let my eyes waske up as much as poss before putting lenses in - if I have to jump out of bed and crank lenses straight in and set off, eg. for early flight, they let me know about it later.

I was still at school when I got my first lenses, and no, I didn't get any time off. COuple of days to start up the "getting used to sclerals" curve, then took them to school with me, to put in during break for mtwo hour spell .....
...... and someone STOLE them!

Aaarghhhh!

My eyes are pretty dire first thing in the morning as well and to be honest I don't feel that my employer understands that. Nor for that matter was the hospital who fit my scleral lenses aware that it could take me anything between 2 - 3 hours from getting up to putting my lenses in and being able to see (well sort of anyway as vision is not perfect). What I tend to do is get up, have a drink wash my face and eyes with cotton wool and sterile saline, shower, get dressed and then put my lenses in. Well you can imagine I sometimes get things a little muddled dressing whilst not seeing clearly and as for drying my hair well, without lenses in I get fuzzy and with them in it's sort of ok! Good job my days of being vain are long gone.

It's annoying however, most days I try to just get on with it. Downside of having to be up 2 - 3 hours before putting lenses in - well your tired before you even leave for work! Maybe I would be better on nights???

best wishes

Susan
don't let the people that mean nothing to you get you down, because in the end they are worth nothing to you, they are just your obstacles in life to trip you up!
