Sarah,

John and robert's advice is correct. I was able to open my gfafted eye the following morning on removal of the eye shield. Funnily enough my non-grafted eye was a lot more light sensitive than the grafted one. This still remains the case for some unknown reason. For me the photophobia soon settled. The swelling went down rapidly. My eye watered a lot for a couple of days then stopped. I didn't experience any pain and have not experienced the burning feeling you describe. I hope everything is okay for you on Friday. You must try to open your eye, as John says you need the oxygen. Where have you had the surgery?

Don't feel too depressed. Things will improve with time. I and others really understand what you're going through.

Take care, Carole.

RE: THAMES PATH WALK

Hi Rosemary, Just managed to get an up-dated schedule from Mike - the walkers are still going strong and they have reached Days Lock today. If anyone wishes to walk some of the days or go and cheer them on, then the programme is as follows:-

Wed 11 Sept: Days Lock to Goring
Thurs 12 Sept: Goring to Sonning
Fri 13 Sept: Sonning to Marlow
Sat 14 Sept: Marlow to Windsor
Sun 15 Sept: Windsor to Shepperton
Mon 16 Sept: Shepperton to Teddington
Tues 17 Sept: Teddington to Putney
Wed 18 Sept: Putney to Tower Bridge

Please email me on sue.ingram@virgin.net if you are interested and I can give you Mike's contact no to arrange meeting places.

If anyone can make the last day, 18 sept, that would be great - we need as many people as poss for the final photo at Tower Bridge!

See you there! Take care. SUE

Dear Emma, What wonderful news - looks like we are raising money left, right and centre at the moment, what with the Thames Path Walk aswell!

I think the best person for you to contact is Mike Oliver on mikekeratoconus@aol.com. However, he is walking the Thames Path until next Wed so you might not get an immediate reply! I am sure I am speaking on behalf of everyone when I say thank you very much for choosing the KC Group to donate your prize to. Best wishes, SUE

Dear Emma (924)Firstly, many congratulations on your exam results - that's really good news! And if you'd like to donate to the KC charity, that would be wonderful! Cheques need to be made out to 'The Keratoconus Group' and sent to the charity address which is PO Box 26251, London W3 9WQ. And if you need to quote the Registered Number of the charity, it's 1057629. Many thanks, Anne

Thames Path Walk

Walked a short distance with Mike and Jill yesterday and with Mike and Ann today. They are going well, despite bruises, sore toes and blisters and someone throwing themselves under the train at Slough this morning, causing rail chaos! They are very determined and making good progress.
At least the weather has been good the last 2 days. They were soaked on Monday in all that awful rain.
If you can catch up with them for a few miles or ferry them from the station to the river it will help them on their way. So if you live along the route, please get in touch - see recent posting for details and they'll let you know timings. Mike's mobile was out of order today, but should be back in action tonight.
Congratulations to the walkers for all they've achieved so far.
Janet

Hi Sarah

sorry to hear your eye is bothering you. I had trouble with my eye after the transplant (29.5.02) - very painful and I found it more bearable if I covered it up. I've been wearing a bandage lens now for the last couple of months which has made a huge difference - no discomfort at all. Unfortunately on 23 Aug when I last saw my specialist he said that the blood vessels were encroaching on the graft site and would be better off without the lens. Half an hour after its removal the eye was troubling me again and I was wanting to cover it up again. I managed less than two days before inserting the bandage lens the specialist gave me to be used only if I had to. I'm getting it changed locally on Monday and will try without again. Anybody else experienced anything like this? Be patient, Sarah, these transplants seem to take a while to settle. Thinking of you. Tubs.

Yes, please - I'm on umbilica@umbilical.demon.co.uk if you'd
rather not post it to the list.

Ooooh..... they aren't going to flash, are they???? I was
hoping to be able to do at least part of the last section, but I can't go anywhere near a camera flash because of my eyes.
