What are your eyes like when you wake in the morning?

Well just don't do what I did yesterday! Last night of the hols proper (staying my brothers tonight) and we decided to cook a slow roast (6 hours) sholder of lamb. So did the usual rosemary and garlic bit and washed my hands. Then we were going out whilse the lamb cooked and I volunteered to drive (so the others could have a little drinky). Put my left lens in and......*******!! Obviously hadn't washed ny hands properly. Only thing worse in the eye is chilli........

I had the little drinky......!

One day and lots of eye drops later have now finally managed to get my lens in without excruciating pain..

I am sure that you will be able to sort out from all of the above a protocol that suits you: the point being that each of us with KC had a different experience.

by all means learn from others, but then apply what you learn to suit your individual circumstances. For what it iw worth, I would get up, have a bath, have breakfast and then put in my lenses.

I have been noticing this week when I feel my eyes are awake in the morning and its around half an hour after I have got up, the new eye drops help.

I cant put my Scleral lenses in until after i've had a shower in the mornings. Like you guys said it wakes you up and gets all the gunk out of ur eyes beforehand. Plus Sclerals are so big and fit to almost the whole of the front of your eye, i couldn't do it! lol I have done before, and its the most uncomfortable feeling! My eyes tend to be quite sensitive in the mornings. But the longer i leave my lenses out, the more sore and irritable they tend to get. Its like my eyes depend on the Amidose saline solution i put into the lenses before putting them in as my eyes feel really dry with no lenses in.

Whats the best lubricant you can get before you put your lenses in guys? If this makes things easier in the mornings to put my lenses in then i could do with some

I tried Sclerals for a while. How do you put them in without getting you or the floor soaked in saline solution!?

Hi Donna,

I can only reiterate what has been said already - all very sound advice.

The wash/shower first thing works best for me. This gives your eyes some time to get accustomed to the light and then the lenses go in better. Also, clearing away the "gunk" from the night before alleviates any issues.

Waiting that half hour or so after you get up and clean the eyes out really does help the lenses to go in better and, with time, you should adjust and get accustomed to wearing them for long periods - I normally average around 15-18 hours daily wear using the RGP lenses.

The only other advice I can offer is that of cleanliness. My main issues with the lenses have been severe light contrasts (I now wear tinted glasses as well as the contacts and a cap) and infections. Do make sure that your hands are clean before "playing" with your lenses - both first thing and if you need to adjust them during the day.

I usually put a towel on my lap so that the saline doesn't go everywhere when putting my sclerals in! lol I've more or less mastered the knack of getting them in now as been wearing them for a few years so tend to have less wet patches everywhere than i used to lol! Some days can be a bugger to get them in though. God knows what i'd do if i had shakey hands lol!
