Hi there
the main difference between solutions for the different types of lenses is that soft lens solutions don't have preservatives in. So - you'd be OK using soft lens solutions for GP lenses but not vice versa.
There are some manufactured for use with both types of lenses - the one I use is Quattro. That's a good solution but it's only sold through Opticians, not Pharmacies or supermarkets. Perhaps other people on the forum can help you how to get this, or names of other solutions made for both soft and GP lenses.

Many thanks - this was just the advice I needed. And, I have discovered (by googling!) that I can buy Quattro on line through "postoptics", so that's good news too!
Will be of particular benefit when I go on holiday - the thought of having to take all the paraphernalia for two lots of lenses was beginning to be quite a challenge!
Thanks again.

Hey there!
Sorry for my late reply, I have been back home in Wales for a week catching up with family and friends and doing the books for my dads business! Thankfully they are all done now which is a GREAT relief!!
I am glad that you are going well with piggybacking. Sorry that we didn't have long to talk at the AGM but I know you will be ok as you are already used to soft lenses!
I do have off days with the soft one but the RGP is usually fine! I just find both lenses get foggy after a while of wear and I need to remove them both, clean them and put them back in.
I don't have any problems with the cleaners or solution and don't find that the RGP solution bothers with the soft one. I use monthly lenses as they apparently let more oxygen in then daily lenses. It is all fine, the cleaning is nothing really.
Wishing you well with piggybacking!!

Hi Pat,
I have been wearing piggy backs successfully for a few months now. I was told to use only solution meant for soft lens on my RGPs as if you use the stuff just for hard lenses it can damage the soft lenses!
I use opti-free express no rub solution on both lenses and I have had no problems with cleanliness, I put the soft lens in pot and squirt solution on and I rub the hard lenses in some solution on my hand before putting them in the pot and covering with solution. I keep them in seperate pots, cos its easier to fish them out, but I was told I can keep them in the same pots - good for travelling, less hassle!
My soft lenses are three monthlies but I use them for about six months.
Another thing I have found is that during the day your hard lenses can slip and overhang the soft lenses. This causes pain/aching as it rubs on your eye. This can be easily corrected by having the hard lenses 'tightened up'. Don't give up, it will be worth it, my vision is so much better than when I wore soft lenses and I can't tolerate RGPs on their own.
Hope this is helpful to you.

I wasn't told that I could put both lenses in the same pot? It was ok though as I only wore lenses in one eye until I picked up my Rose K today and realised that I now need another case! I am still going to keep them in separate cases though as it is easier to find them as soft lenses are hard to find sometimes!
I have been piggybacking for about eight months now and it is the best thing I have tried! I use opti free express but I do clean the soft lens as it works so much better. I was told when I started piggy backing that it would be better to clean it as you do with a RGP as in rubbing it and I do find that the lens is less foggy and blurred if I do.

Hi Sweet.
My opthamologist told me there was no reason why they couldn't go in the same pot, but like you its so much easier to find and get out of seperate pots! Also, I keep them seperate as I was abit worried about infections or dirt passing from lenses to lenses in the pot - might just be being paranoid!! Glad to hear you get on with piggy backs too, a lot on this thread don't seem to have had much luck with them. I love my piggy backs there great, and its also good seeing none Kcers faces when they learn u wear two lenses in each eye! They can never believe it!

Hehe Emma thanks for that!
I find it rather difficult to think though that I could use the same case as I can't clean them in the same solution so which solution do you soak them in? LOL!! Hehe weird!!!
Thanks for your response and glad that someone else finds piggybacking so good as well!!

Thanks for all your comments Sweet & Emma, they have been really helpful. And I'm managing about 8 hours a day with piggybacking, the only discomfort being when my eyes start to dry out - and it's just a bit of a nuisance rather than painful! I haven't experienced the rgp slipping off the soft one yet!
At the moment, I'm following the separate cleaning routines for both lenses and using separate & different solutions & lens cases. But I must admit to getting a bit confused- especially as at the moment I'm using a soft toric in my right eye with a slightly stronger power than the soft base lens for my left! (Does that make sense!) If I get them muddled up & put the wrong one in the wrong eye, I can't see to get them out!! And the solutions I've got at the moment are in very similar coloured bottles - which, without any lenses in are difficult to differentiate!
I think my main worry was the rgp wetting solution damaging the soft lens when I put it (the rgp) in my eye, but as Christine has given me the details for the Quattro solution I'll give that a try next. In the meantime I've started rinsing the rgp with saline before I put it in and it seems fine.
And wish me luck for Wednesday when I'm going to try and persuade my local optician to try me with a Kerasoft lens in my Right eye. Or should I ask him about RoseK I wonder? I'm a bit miffed that Moorfields haven't even suggested it if they are so comfortable!
Thanks again.
