Postby Shabana » Wed 07 Mar 2007 3:25 pm

Hi, I am new to the site. I was diagnosed with KC 2 years ago. MY left eye is really bad, My right eye is ok at the moment. I am having a cornea graft on 3rd april 07. I am really nervous about this as I dont know anyone that has had a graft, and I wont be able to do things for my 2year old daughter.

Hi

Yeah I have tried glasses. I also tried the hard lenses I went to the opticians twice a week for 2-3 months i just could not get them in as my left eye was really bad. So i have chosen to have the graft.

Hi Shabana

I had a graft in my right eye in November i also have 3 children they are 9 , 5 and 3.
apart for the first 2 weeks i have been fine with the children and have been doing all the same things as i was doing before.
I was worried before the op that i would struggle with the kids but i think it has been a bit easier because all the worry about the op has gone!! and i can also see a small improvement in my vision :D
Hope all goes well for you in April

Hi Shabana,

Welcome to the forum, :D

I'll go along with what Anne said. I had my graft last thursday and nearly a week on am feeling ok.

To be on the safe side it would probably help to have a bit of support for the first couple of weeks.

From my experience so far, the operation or post operation hasn't been painful, rather the eye is slightly irritating.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I feel bit more at ease now after reading your replies.

I will have help at home, my husband is great and becuase of him I have not had to wait too long for a graft as he always kept on top of the hospital.

Did you guys go home the same day?

Shabana

Hi Shabana,

Generally, you will be kept in hospital overnight, and allowed home the following day.

I suspect though that this is as much to do with the recovery time from the anaesthetic than the graft operation itself.

Do you have a date for your graft yet?
John

Hi Shabana,

I had mine under a general at 9.15am. By 4pm the same day I was back at home. I would have been allowed home a couple of hours earlier but I didn't have someone to pick me up until after 3.

I then had to reattend the hospital the following day for a check up and had the bandage/eye shield removed.

As John mentions with the anaesthetic, it did knock me out a bit and I did sleep most of the day.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the reply. I have had a general anaesthetic before I felt horrible when I woke really groggy.

I will hopefully Post my experience on the site.

Shabana
