I have driven on route 66 .. both the original road and the new Interstate (I 55).

I lovee driving on their great highways, and it is not hard to keep to 65 on the Interstate. The marshmallows don't go much faster. Chicago to St Louis is as breeze but St Paul to san Francisco is a very long way with a spectacular crossing of the Rockies.

That is one thing that appealed, the Rockies.

However I have never had the desire to drive across the Rockies, but to go pony trcking across them with a guid and only a small group with just the bare essentials going back to basics.
