Do you have problems taking your lenses out? (ouch!)

I read somewhere recently that it is advisable to remove contact lenses when flying anyway. Not sure why - something to do with the type/condition of air in the cabins?

Not that it affects me - I don't do flying! Severe phobia I'm afraid!

Only flown once with lenses in and it was not too uncomfortable, but the flight was 1 hour.

I think some would advise against the wearing of lenses because the air is recycled a lot more than it used to be as it is more economical on fuel.

The other reason I heard is it ups the carbon dioxide levels a tad to make passengers more sleepy so do not vause as much trouble.

Another is that they do it to dry the air, give you a dry throat so you buy more in the way of food and drink!

No idea if any of it is true.

However if the air is constantly recycled through the aircon unit, it will make it drier and drier which is not contact lens or eye friendly.

I went to Spain for the weekend a few years ago and i got the worse eye infection, i think it was caused by the air con on the plane.
My eye went bright red then swollen then shut and i coundn't open it. then all the glands in the side of my face and neck swelled up. Went to my GP when i got home he took one look at me and sent me to Eye Casulty.
They were not that interested and just gave me some eye drops and told me "your GP can sort out the rest" went back to GP who gave me Antibiotics and wrote a letter of complaint to the eye casualty.
And still no one spotted my KC!!!

Has anyone tried putting their lenses back in in a plane toilet? Thats an experience, especially with turburlance.

Have you tried putting lenses back in while sitting in your seat, a contortionist has nothing on me

Seriously tho if I'm on a long haul flight I do take out my lenses for at least an hour AND let the crew know in case of emergencies, I can't see very much at all without my lenses. Mind you when I told the steward the last time I flew he said I would have a few minutes to put them back in

that made me Laugh, you can just imagine the pilot saying the plane is going to crash and you very calmly putting your lenses back in

In an emergency, please put your seat in the upright position, raise and lock your table, place your index finger on your top eye lid, 2nd finger on your lower eye lid and calmly insert your contact lens.

Sterile solution and tissues can be found in the top pocket of your life jacket.
