Newbie, just consented to Intac implant

Postby chad sharp » Tue 09 Jan 2007 8:34 pm

Hello, this is my first posting. I only found this Forum a week ago.
Today I signed consent forms for an Intac implant, I was told that surgery could take place within a couple of months at E.Grinstead. In all honesty things are happening fast. I have the consultants opinion of the surgery and naturally it's very positive. Can anyone offer any advice/let me know what to expect - even if it's pointing me to other posts.
Thanks
Chad

Hi Chad

Welcome to the forum. Intacs are still new to many of us here but there are some who have posted their experiences.

Have a look in the Frequently Asked Questions sections, I posted some notes I took at the Birmingham support group where we were given a presentation on intacs regarding what is involved, recovery potential problems you might encounter. The speaker was very thorough and I feel gave a good balanced presentation when intacs are good and when they are not suitable and so on.

Chad: You are on the frontier! All the best with your Intacs fitting. I have read a lot about this prcedure, and if it lives up to its theoretical billing, it is going to be a great boon to folks like us.

if not, then it seems that no harm will have been done.

Ashley: You need to ask your ophthalmologist for advice about specific sports.

All the best

I played rugby for many years post graft with no problems at all so you should be fine after intacs too.

Chad,

Hello there and welcome to the forum!

I haven't had intacs fitted but would like to wish you all the best with it! I take it that you are seeing Sheraz Daya at East Grinstead, i went to him for a DALK. He is very good and knows what he is doing so you will be fine.

Take care and do come back and let us know you you get on!!

Thanks everyone, I've had excellent treatment so far at E.Grinstead, I was initially prescribed Cyclosporin. This has had fantastic results - pretty much eradicating my photophobia. 'Touch wood' the Intac will have results with equal success. I tried solid lenses but couldn't get past half a day without aggravation.
The main downside that I can see is that I'll lose my fantastic close up x3 magnification, quite useful in my line of work. I'm also worried about flaring when night driving. I already get this badly but I'm told it probably won't worsen.
