3 WEEKS POST GRAFT

Postby Diane Fitzhenry » Fri 05 Jan 2007 4:51 pm

Hey good news. I saw my consultant today, I managed to read 1st and 2nd line on the chart all be it with the pin hole but I could never have done this before my graft. Dr is very pleased says all is looking well and the cornea is not as dry as it was 2 weeks ago. He said it was very clean and the stitches look well.

Craig... I asked him about the headaches and he said it was down to my grafted eye straining hard to get some clear vision and is quite normal, as is a slight 'seasick' feeling from time to time. This is all due to the brain now trying to balance out the new vision. Also he himself has done over 400 grafts and although he doesn't have personal data as to success, the whole eye unit do as a group and he will look it up for me for my next appo in 5 weeks time.

Hope this is of some help to you.

I am - was planning to go to the Maldives for xmas this 2007 I spoke to him about this and he said it should be fine as long as I protect the eye if i'm doing any sports while i'm there. He said he can't see any reason why my life should be unduly affected by the graft as long as I don't lift anything excessive and take things at a reasonable pace.

I asked about the discolouration (my grafted eye looks a slightly different colour to my non- grafted eye) and he told me this is scar tissue and will in time fade. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE AGE OF THE DONOR.

LADIES.... If anyone is interested he told me it was ok to wear a small amount of eye make up now if i so wished, as long i was very careful not to rub when removing it but to wipe slowly with non perfumed wipes.

Also he has prescribed some 'artifical tears' to keep the eye fresh and moist.

Can't think of anything else right now but i'll get back to you if i do.

Hope you are all well
Di
