Roger or anyone

Tried new specs this weekend - best thing I ever did. My right eye is good enough for most things. Before I couldn't even read paper / see TV / make tea etc. without RGP's. But now can give my eyes a good rest to please both my Cornea's and the optho. Also have done all the dusty jobs couldn't do before. Havn't used a drill for years!!

Take your point about kids and dogs but I think the best about tis site is reading other stories that make you think your'e not the only one..........Carole and her baby in Oz etc.

Oh and washing RGP's I use water straight out of the tap, I know there is a lot of fuss but the Hospital I go to does too, and says it is storing not rinsing that's the problem

Tip of the day from me, original 'Squeezee' washing up liquid gets my lenses really clean when I can do no more with cleaner and protein tablets. It gets them squeeky clean!

(My hands are soft too)

Roger,

I just use saline to wash off the cleaning solution, as much as necessary! So I too would like to hear if anyone has any great tips! I'm not too sure on the water out of the tap method though - wouldn't have thought it was a good idea in hard water areas???

One thing I noted after looking at numerous websites was to use a antibacterial soap with no moisturiser before inserting/removing lenses - I think the moisturiser can end up depositing itself on the lens, adding to all the other deposits. So far its helping me (OK.. along with alergy eye drops, daily cleaner and protein tablets) - lenses are much more comfortable and cleaner!

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that I use saline to wash the cleaning solution off of my RGP corneal lenses and ordinary tap water to wash it off my sclerals. The tap water does not seem to cause a problem (and I do live in a hard water area!).

I also wear an RGP corneal in one eye and a coated scleral in the other eye. This does not cause any visual problems or dizziness etc, etc. In fact, I get my best vision using the two together - it all seems very crazy doesn't it? But then so does KC, as we are all hearing about! Take care one and all. Hopefully see you at the picnic in Kent on 20 May. SUE

All,

I use saline - about 2 quid a bottle from Tesco or cheaper from http://www.postoptics.co.uk.

I was advised against tap water as it contains micro-bacteria, especially if it sits in a tank in the loft!

I use cotton buds with the cleaning solution every-so-often to get off those deposits from the inside of the lens. Be careful not to snap the RGP lens though!

Bye for now
Ian

I always keep Saline with me for when I'm out in the car, and always use the non-aerosol version, otherwise the lenses can blow away with the can's jet of saline.

Take your points about tap water, but had no troubles. I was told the bacteria grows on the inside of the storage pots

Steve
I wear only one scleral lens. I really have only periferal vision in my left eye, but since a squint correction and experimentation by Ken Pullum, I am going to have a scleral in that eye too. At the moment I have no porblems with vision (well, except I can't see very well!!). Hopefully when I have two lenses I will cope, although I will still use one eye or the other (my tiny brain can't cope with both eyes sending messages to it at once!) Sounds vizarre, but there you are...if you meet me you will realise that it is par for the course!!

Hi Steve, Ken's email address is info@sclerals.com or you can get him at the Contact Lens Department at Moorfields on a Monday or Thursday. Email is probably the easiest and quickest though as Ken is so busy. I know Ken regularly reads this discussion page so is fairly up-to-date on all our comments! SUE

I have been reading daily messages from kate tony freddy etc and feel as if i know you all (Although I some times feel I cannot find my way into the fun). You all sound so
supportive of oneanother and i would really like to add to that.
I have had KC for 35yrs.i had grafts on both eyes at 12 yrs old but now at 45 they are
deteriating/ My sight is truely dreadful without my lenses but i am limited
to how long i can wear them. in short my situation ys no different than most
of you.
If i can be of any help to anyone can you let me know. How is Freddy doing
after her op?
I hope this gets through -surely i've run out of mistakes!
