Sackcoloth, but no Ashes

Postby Andrew MacLean » Mon 18 Dec 2006 7:11 am

What can I say? A good day for Australia is a bad day for England. Actually, England's collapse in the Second Test made yesterday a sad day that had been postponed.

We've taken political correctness too far :(

Our boys were too afraid to offend the Aussies.

A pathetic performance yet again. They can't even use the excuse "we tried our best" because they certainly didn't. Duncan Fletcher should go and Andrew Strauss replace Flintoff as Captain. What's the betting we will either lose 5-0 or win the next two tests. After the euphoria last summer it is a real let down.

Lesley.

ps Thoughts and prayers to Ashley Giles & his family and to his wife for a speedy recovery.

It looks like the press have started their feeding frenzy. But in all this there is a danger that we loose sight of a truth: England's performance was poor, but the Australians fielded a phenomenal team at the top of its game.

Matbe the UK sports establishment (all four nations and the UK itself) needs to keep learning and relearing the lesson that the days when a "make do" team was "good enough" have long since gone.

Looks like a white wash.

Maybe they should just leave the Ashes in Oz.

With retirement of Warne and McGrath the England team are probably thinking that it will be easier next time round and they'll get another bus trip round London!

After this tour debacle there is truth in the adage 'Pride comes before a fall'. They thought it was going to be so easy.
